The UKV Met Office model is now available on Windy
-
Windy.com announces the addition of a new forecast model for the United Kingdom, provided by the renowned Met Office, named UKV.
The UKV model, now freely available on Windy.com to all of our users, has an impressive resolution of 2km, the highest resolution weather forecast possible for the UK, and provides our users with enhanced detail and improved accuracy. This is crucial in areas with geographical features such as hills, mountains, and coastlines, where understanding the terrain can greatly affect the forecast quality.
The model is available for 20 different weather layers, including temperature, wind speed, and precipitation, allowing users to get a complete picture of the weather conditions in the United Kingdom and extended surroundings.
Update times are as follows:
- Every 6 hours for Premium users
- Every 12 hours for free users
“As the UK’s meteorological service it’s crucial that we work proactively with partners to provide expert Met Office data and information wherever people get their weather forecast. Met Office model output on Windy.com provides users with enhanced detail at an improved resolution, helping make sure everyone has access to the forecast information they need to make better decisions to stay safe and thrive.” Ian Cameron, Met Office Markets Director
Better UK Weather Radar
In addition to the new UKV forecast model, the Met Office has provided us with the maximum quality of weather radar data for the UK and Ireland, allowing us to show the most accurate information about precipitation possible!
The new radar has an update interval of 5 minutes with 500 meters resolution. Features like this contribute to better weather pattern detection and tracking.
How to navigate
The UKV model is selectable from the models' menu if the map is positioned over the British Isles on the desktop and in the App.
At Windy.com, we're committed to providing our users with the best possible experience, and that's why the UKV model is the perfect addition to our suite of weather forecasting tools and will help users stay ahead of the weather no matter what their plans may be. We look forward to your feedback!

The name of my city is not written on the map. I added it to the OSM map three months ago, and it has not been added to the Wendy map yet.

Hi @Korina that's a great and welcomed edition to Windy! very happy with this. How can I set up windy to always default to UKV? I monitor the weather so much and having a high res model to hand will be very useful
-
@Danzo8 Hi, position your map over the UK, choose UKV and head over to settings -> Start-up location and layer -> Start-up layer -> and select "use last overlay". This way you can save the currently selected model and layer as default.

Seems that the radar over UK is now more accurate and we no longer see this glitch :

I don't have a UKV option on my list of models. Is it released fully or only to some users at this time? Thanks.
-
This is the domain of UKV, and not elsewhere.
Are you using the browser version or the mobile app?
-
@idefix37 I was on the web app, but now I see the problem. I was expecting Global and it's the regional grid. Thanks!
-
@idefix37 Yes, it has been fixed by using better data. The difference in coverage is as follows:

@13baktun
Hi, could you give the links to these sites? Just for information -
-
UKMO is a different model with a lower resolution.
-
And will it be available?
In the ranking of models it is after ECMWF -
@Lior-Sudry We might add it in the future.
-
Hi, I use Windy for flight planning and find it is brilliant! Keep up the good work! Having the UKV model is fantastic. When will this model be available in the VFR planning mode, please?
Also, will the VFR mode ever be available on Android? Would be really helpful.
Thanks!
