The UKV Met Office model is now available on Windy

UKMO is a different model with a lower resolution.
-
And will it be available?
In the ranking of models it is after ECMWF -
@Lior-Sudry We might add it in the future.

Hi, I use Windy for flight planning and find it is brilliant! Keep up the good work! Having the UKV model is fantastic. When will this model be available in the VFR planning mode, please?
Also, will the VFR mode ever be available on Android? Would be really helpful.
Thanks!

Thank you
-
@Korina Thanks!
-
@EmmanuelC Hi, so far only ECMWF is available for route planning and it is not on our todo list to add other models in the following weeks or months, but we will discuss it internally. On the contrary, adding a route planner into mobile apps IS on our todo list ;-)

Is UKV going to be available to Android widgets in the nearer future? because I see it in the app fine & case it was a bug I removed & re-added said widget.
-
Hi @Walker998, there is no specific time period for the implementation of new models into widgets at the moment. However, we have this update in our plans.
-
How does the windy UKV model work?
It is now free to download the UKV model, which is now freely available on Windy.com to ALL users. With a resolution of 2km, it is the highest resolution weather forecast available for the UK, and provides the users with enhanced detail and improved accuracy compared to traditional weather forecasts.

Hi, I would just like to ask if you plan to add the UKV model to the hourly widget on iOS anytime soon please?
-
Hello @jarrah31, for now, we have certain difficulties with implementation and it is stopped for now. However, I realized the demand and, hopefully, it will be added in the future.

@Suty
Thank you for the update and explanation, I wish you luck on figuring out the problem. 👍🏻 -
@Korina @Suty
Unfortunately the method described to use the last overlay doesn’t permanently make UKV the default model when launching the app.If for example I use temperature overlay along with UKV model and set “Start-up layer and location” as “Use last overlay”, force closing and launching the app does default back to UKV. However this default can easily be overwritten by simply zooming out on the map view which causes the model to automatically change to ECMWF on the map and within “Use last overlay”.
Is this inability to set a permanent default model linked to the difficulties you described in your previous reply to me? I can understand it would be difficult to do as a widget but what about within the app please?
I find the UKV model much more accurate than ECMWF and it’s frustrating always having to manually swap back to UKV within settings each time I look at a wider map view. As a new subscriber based in the UK this feature is quite important to me so 🤞🏻 you are able to find a fix for this.
Thanks in advance.

@jarrah31 Hi, so the issue on your end is the automatic switch to the global model, after you zoom out the location from the UKV model, am I right?
-
Hi @Suty, almost correct. I don’t mind it automatically switching to the global model because it’s handy to see that view. However as expected, this then becomes the overlay that “Use last overlay” saves when I close the app.
I do realise that if I return to the app after a short time (because the app hasn’t fully closed in the background), I’m still on the global model which is again ok. What I’d like to request please is that when I open the app several hours later after iOS has closed the app in the background (or a manual force close), the model defaults to UKV (or whichever model is specified in a new setting option).
Hope that helps. -
@jarrah31 I can forward this, but I am afraid that this behavior can't be changed now this way. I am sorry about that.

@Suty ok thank you for the update.
