Spanish rainfall radar unreliable?
-
I live in Menorca where it has been raining hard all day long. Yet when I look at the Windy rainfall radar it has continually shown no rain here at all. Is the Spanish met office radar not reliable? They have shown a large area of rainfall constantly some 100km to the south west. Could they have a problem aligning images with maps correctly?

Hi,
You can compare the Radar on Windy on 12 hours with the radar shown by AEMET
https://www.aemet.es/fr/eltiempo/observacion/radar
They are quite similar showing rain really starting at 17:00 over Menorca. -
@idefix37 Thanks for response. Yes, I did that, and saw rainfall showing from 17.00. Only trouble, it actually started at 07.30, and has rained hard, non-stop all day! This was not shown on AEMET or Windy.

The Windy Radar layer is based on AEMET radar data and as both are similar, you may ask to AEMET if they have an idea for the discrepancy between their radar signal and your observations. I suggest that you get rainfall reports from several local weather stations.

I have tried to make contact with AEMET, and will continue to do so. This is not the first time it's been pouring with rain here, yet shown 'dry' on their radar. Yesterday was the worse example I've noticed. Literally over 8 hours of continuous rainfall over the island, none of which showed (until hour 9) on their radar! When you live on a small island - as anywhere I suppose - the exact alignment of radar imagary to the map is crucial.
