Inaccurate Notifications ≠ Alert Settings
-
I’ve had Premium over half a year and no parameter(s) of settings have ever generated a notification when conditions were met.
Windy’s alert system is abysmal. I’ve searched the forum and not one moderator has ever provided any explaination to previous user’s questions why alert parameters for a single location are restricted to one set, or why there’s no option to seat alert parameters in order to recieve predictive notifications based on any length or type of meteo forecasting.
There is next to zero untilitarian function to a weather forecast app if 1) only one set of parameters can be created for a specific location, 2) the system has no options to generate any real-world useful predictive alert/notifications, 3) the allowed parameters may or may not generate notifications after conditions are or are not met.
Even if there’s a solution to get accurate notifications, a post-hoc “alert” after conditions are met is completely unuseful for most people.
Current problem:
I have 1 location with 1 alert: 0.7 rain accumulation with 3 hrs. Recieved a notification approx 48hrs after rain at this location (and it’s possible rainfall accumulation amount was not met). This is not the first time conditions were = or exceeded alert settings and no alert notification was sent.
ps. If anyone does reply, please do not reiterate that alert settings only use the “and” function. While this by itself is a deficiency in the system, the problem is that for the simplist parameter above, there has been a post-hoc lack of notification or the notification was so delayed as to be entirely useless.

Hi @Aura-Lynx thank you for your feedback about the alerts function. I prepared some test alerts on my device to monitor notifications and if there is any issue I forward it to colleagues. I will keep you posted.

@Ondřej-Šutera For some reason my screenshot won’t upload

@Aura-Lynx It is strange, you should be able to insert the image by inserting the link of image here.
However, do you evaluate alerts coming up with the forecast you checked or the real situation outside?

@Ondřej-Šutera I am becoming very frustrated with your replies. You haven’t answered my questions. You haven’t even attempted to answer them. And now you have asked me a question that indicates you basically do not understand anything I’ve explained. What is strange to me is that you just asked if I evaluate alerts coming up with the forecast or if I check the real situation outside.
I’ve already explained… I need alerts in advance that are accurate to alert settings. The first two times I ever recieved an alert, there was no rain event predicted more than 4 days out. The last 3 times I received an alert, it was about 24 hrs in advance but the predicted accumulated rain values/total was no where close to the alert settings. The example below is typical of the last three rain alerts.
I recieved an alert over 2 hours ago for the following forecast. The next rain event (Thurs) does not meet alert values set, and the second predicted rain event (Sun) does not either - nor do both in total.
This language explaining this alert explicitly stated that certian rain accumulation values must be met in order for an alert to be sent. So why am I getting predictive alerts? Yes, I do want predictive alerts! BUT, not if the forecast model predicts rain values clearly below what I set for an alert.
Apart from the above issue…
As I asked twice before: why is there a highly restrictive “and” function to alert settings??
Are you employed by Windy or a volunteer moderator? I need someone who can understand what I’m explaining and have answers. Would you please read my previous questions and answer them? Or please get someone who can give me answers.

Hi @Aura-Lynx, I am sorry about my previous confusion. You are right that alerts don't work as they should, I did some tests, and there are certain issues. I will forward and discuss it with colleagues from the product team. I will keep you posted.
Also, I can clearly say that there are some plans to update the whole alert functionality, and more conditions and functions should be added since we are aware that actual solution needs a further update.

@Aura-Lynx I discussed it with colleagues from the product team and we are planning complete update of alerts, since there is higher interest in this feature. Unfortunately, this version of alerts has some issues with initializing of notifications, etc.. So I would like to ask you for patience with this.
