I'm new to windy and would like to know if there is a way to detect a tornado. Seems like the wind animation would make that easy, but I was following the recent outbreak and didn't see any rotation of the wind particles in the areas of confirmed tornadoes. Also, I can't find any access to wind barbs. Are there any ?

Global weather models and regional models have a too coarse resolution to show the rotating winds around tornadoes. In Windy the minimum resolution is 5 km for HRRR in the US. The experts use the sounding forecasts and radiosondes which are available in Windy. But you better rely on the Tornadoes Watch from the NWS
In the Wind layer, wind direction and speed is not shown as wind barbs.
