    How do you get the tide current velocity and direction.

        Your message is not clear as your posted a text content different from the title !

        I can answer only the tittle:
        Tidal currents is based on sea surface altimetry measured by satellites.

        So it means that close to sea shore and in some narrows this layer is not precise enough to be the only source used for navigation. In fact it depends on the sea bed and coast line shapes. In deep waters and with a straight coast line the information is quite good, but not so much in shallow waters or in bays inducing possible higher stream and counter currents.
