Hi there... when I'm zoomed out on the wind map, there are different colors for different wind speeds, i.e. for low wind there's a deep blue color. I like that.

However, when I zoom in, the wind speed colors go away completely (just looks like a regular map). I don't think this is a bug - I think it's a normal setting.

Is there a way to retain the zoomed-out-colors when zoomed in?

      Thank you!

        Hi,
No, this is not possible. The aim at high zoom level is to show the base map in detail, without extra colors on top of it.
I don’t think that you would get better accuracy if the wind speed is shown at high zoom level. Remember that the resolution of ECMWF model is 9 km (~ 4.7 NM) and 22 km (~ 12 NM) for GFS.

For example in the Bahamas, in the middle of the square I plotted on the map, the ECMWF provides only one value of wind speed and direction. So at higher zoom level you would not get more details about the wind.

BTW for low wind speed I prefer light colors as in my customized color scale :)

@idefix37 hi sailor, thanks for that. Too bad. I'm not concerned about getting better accuracy in this context, it's purely about the color. I'm really tuned into the color for forecasting in certain locations, hence the question. For example, when zoomed out - I'm able to understand the forecast very quickly for various locations. When zoomed in - not so easy, have to "hunt around", placing the cursor/flag in different spots, look at the numbers. I guess what I'm trying to say that without the color, it's harder to connect the dots.

Maybe this could go into a request box. I'd be willing to sacrifice the closeup map detail to get the color.

I not sure to understand exactly what you mean. If you are willing to sacrifice the closeup map, you don’t need to zoom in so much ? Could you show a screenshot explaining why the detailed map needs to be zoomed in.

                Hi,
What issue has been pending for a few days?
The weather layers (Wind, Rain, Temperature…) are not displayed at highest zoom levels, but this is the normal behavior in the Windy app. So this is not an issue.

The behavior you described, where the wind speed colors disappear when zooming in a wind map, is likely a design choice or limitation of the specific wind map application you are using. It is common for map visualizations to simplify or change the representation of data as you zoom in to avoid clutter and maintain a clear view at higher zoom levels.

Hello! Sorry for the delayed response, going to try and attach some screenshots per idefix37’s request. Screenshot 1: zoomed out; Screenshot 2: zoomed in. Would love to retain those lovely colors at the zoomed in levels!
