Marine Exchange of Alaska- Weather Data Contributor Inquiry
-
Hello,
My name is Bryan Hinderberger. I work at the Marine Exchange of Alaska. We field and deploy weather stations throughout the state of Alaska and we would like to contribute to windy's data collection. We notice already that your windy weather viewer already contains some of our stations. I assume it is through some data collection process that sniffs the internet for this sort of information.
What sort of efforts can we make that would allow windy to not only connect to ALL of our weather stations but also identify our organization as the owner and provider of said data? We backhaul 1 second data from our sensors. We utilize a Gill MaxiMet GMX500 series sensor and have available Temp, Pressure, Humidity, Wind Speed/Direction, Wind Gust/Direction. I can be reached at bryanhinderbergre@mxak.org or 907-723-0250 to discuss this topic further.
Thanks for the considerations in advance.
Bryan

Curious how one is able to make contact with a developer or representative from Windy. Does anyone know how that is best accomplished?

Hello Bryan,
If you have not received a response to your post from an Administrator, they have probably missed it. As they are only on the forum during office hours, I hope you'll get a more specific answer on Monday from @Ondřej-Šutera or @Korina.
Are the weather stations you manage very numerous? You can add them yourself but they would be probably considered as personal weather stations.
For professional weather stations, Windy should be able to collect and add them as this was done for all professional stations in Windy, in particular those WMO or Airport labelled.
Could you give us one of your weather stations already present in Windy as example ? -
Hi @mxak_tech_it we usually use various stations databases, so you can share the source, from where we can take these data or you can insert these stations to Windy on your own here on this link.

@Ondřej-Šutera
Thanks. If some of our stations are already present on Windy portal but not affiliated with our organization, we would like to have that correlation. Is there a method you prescribe for organizations such as ours where some of our data is present but not all. For example, refer to: https://www.mxak.org/services/mda/weather/map-of-sites/ for the complete picture of our weather sensing locations.
We would like to have ALL our data present in Windy as well as a logo/affiliation to our organization and website. Is it best to setup the delivery of this data through your API or is there a best practice you would steer us towards when some of the data is there but not all of it? -
@idefix37
Rocky Island, Naked Island, Little Island, Portland Island, SRXA2, Eldred Rock, PCXA2, Point Gardner, Cape Decision, ....
https://www.mxak.org/services/mda/weather/map-of-sites/, is the URL of our own map viewer for a reference to all the stations we own, operate, and maintain. What we are really looking for is for all our data to be displayed and present within windy as well as station name uniformity and logo/website association with our organization. How do you recommend going about updating the existing stations and adding where there are not -
@mxak_tech_it
I’m not sure you can get all details you want added to your weather stations as the template is this one:For instance, SRXA2 is considered as a personal weather station (pws) but the name of your organisation could probably be added to SRXA2 or replace it.
Then, in Windy there are very few parameters displayed:
Wind
Wind gust
Wind direction
Temperature
Dew point
Rain at some WX -
@idefix37
Thanks.
To use the API key, do I first need to manually create each Weather Station for which the API will be able to cross reference with? If I send data for a station that already exists but does not show the correct name for what should be done? -
Hopefully an Administrator gives you a detailed explanation about the API.

@mxak_tech_it Please check this post about adding your data directly via our API endpoints. There is a documentation as well.
