What does it means if animation of level of clouds is gray and altitude of clouds is showing like a cross ?

You are looking at Cloud base.
If there is no cloud in this area, there is no cloud base !
This is the meaning of the gray color and the cross on the picker.
In this case zooming out make easier to understand what you see.
