On app (Android) and website, how do I see for what elevation the forecast is? For example, if I choose Vancouver BC for weather forecast, it's a hilly city, and the forecast, both wind and temp, can vary with whether you are forecasting for sea level or the top of one of the hills. Note, I'm just asking about the elevation or altitude of the land forecast, not about winds altitude. Thank you.

In mobile app or on website, if you set the Altitude slider At surface, that means the forecast is at the ground level. Theoretically because the models include a coarse topographic model (Orography model). To know more precisely the elevation used by the model, see Sounding (right click on website or long tap in the app).Note the high resolution weather models have a better topographic resolution. For temperature in mountains these models must be preferred. So in your mountainous area, HRRR model provide better temperature forecast. Its temperature map shows clearly valleys and mountains.

@idefix37 Thanks, but I want to know WHAT ALTITUDE GROUND LEVEL is, e.g. for a forecast of a slope on Mt. Rainier, I need to know if the forecast temp and winds are for 5k' or 8k' to judge how warm or how windy the day is. Just by looking at the map, the altitude used for the forecast point is not always clear.

ALTITUDE AT GROUND LEVEL is displayed by zooming in to get the base map details. You can see the topographic map with altitude and contours but all in meters. You can’t change them for feet.
And as shown in my previous post, the ALTITUDE AT GROUND LEVEL is also given by the sounding graphic where you want. It is called Elevation. Elevation is Altitude above mean sea level: https://mapscaping.com/what-is-the-difference-between-elevation-relief-and-altitude/#:~:text=Elevation refers to the height,level%2C depending on the context.But at same point, the model gives a forecast for 3414m.

@idefix37 OK, thanks. Maybe the problem is the map layer I'm using.
-
@idefix37 Yeah, I just played around with map layers. Don't see the topo map layer you're using. That's the problem.

@Sid-Ways
Even when zooming at the highest zoom level ? Both in the website and in the mobile app? This is very strange. -
some weather websites gives additional details such as elevation, in their forecasts. when accessing a weather website an look for sections or tabs which provide detailed weather website detailed parameters. These sections may includes information about elevation, wind pattern, UV index and many more.

Hey there! On both the app and website, the elevation-specific forecast might not be readily available. Typically, weather forecasts provide data based on the meteorological station's location, which could be at a specific altitude. To get more accurate elevation-based forecasts, you might need to rely on local knowledge or dedicated weather services that offer Download altitude-specific predictions. It's an interesting consideration, especially for cities with varying elevations like Vancouver. Stay weather-wise!

You talk about a time when forecasts were made by meteorologists from every official weather station.
This is very different nowadays, as on Windy, it is global or regional weather models that provide the forecast and the predictions are not linked to a specific weather station.
