Geopotential Height Label
-
Hello Windy,
I am a huge fan of overlaying geopotential height onto other maps (satellite, wind, precipitable water). I like that the current toggle in Windy allows GH to be overlayed on most maps. Could Windy better label this feature ? I assume the current GH product is a 500mb initial analysis from a global model, but it doesn't specify. Is it 500mb heights from the ECMWF or GFS ? Please amend the label to specify.
Thank You,

Hello,
Windy doesn’t show geopotential heights at only 500 mb (500hPa) but at several pressure level.
Then you can easily see that the geopotential isolines change when you switch from one model to another. So they are displayed according to ECMWF or GFS data depending on which model you choose. -
@idefix37 Thank you for your reply. The 500mb height is a standard viewing product for most meteorologists. The ability to select this Geopotential height (only) and overlay these isolines on other maps (satellite, wind) would make Windy even more useful.

Hello windy
Right now i am using windy in the north Atlantic (azores)
and at the surface, 300ft and 600ft the geopotential shown is the same on these 3 different levels.
Can you explain what it means please?
Thanks -
@H-Nunes sorry, surface ,300ft and 2000ft
Thanks -
@H-Nunes
At surface and near the surface, geopotential heights have no sense and are not provided by the model. In Windy the very low level show the Geopotential heights of 950hPa
