Understanding the Compare Forecast Feature in Windy.com
-
@Korina Around Munich/Germany I prefer ECMWF for long term and Meteoblue for short term forecasts.
-
This is the best application of forecast.
All types of weather we can saw by easily -
@Korina ECWMF is my favourite, AROME for Côte d'Azur and Corsica. AROME was the only model to predict the arcus storm in Corsica last August.
-
Hello, i use ecmw for global tendencies and arome/ukv for Day report on the west point of France.
-
@Korina I use Icon D2 and ECMWF as they appear to perform best for my location. However I also like to compare all forecasts to get an idea about the magnitude ofuncertainty of the forecasts.
-
I use the ECMWF and I also compare it with the GFS model.
-
From my experience, I find the models with highest resolution to be the most precise as well, especially in the north of France. Instead in Sicily, for my experience, I get most of the times the best forecast from ECMWF.
In anycase I see ECMWF being an overall great instrument, able to forecast with good precions even different days ahead. -
@Korina As Alpinist I use the Meteoblue, good for 'complex terrains' as you said in the video
-
I use the default because I don’t really know WTH I’m looking at! Lol! I’ve used the compare feature before and could see the benefits for the ‘other-than-novice’ users. I primarily use the the weather radar, which is second-to-none.
-
@Korina ECMWF is a good addition to the “old”
Models GFS and ICON.
local forecasts I have less experience with. -
I dive along the central and Southern California coast. ECM gives the best swell forecast. GSM gives the best surface weather forecast. Need both to determine good diving conditions.
-
@Korina I use the NAM for winter months in the inner Mountain West/ Rocky Mountain Region. ECMWF in the summer for a broad view of events, than switch to HRRR for the specifcs of that days flight. I do like the resolution of the anticipated wind values better in HRRR than ECMWF, but nothing beats the morning radiosonde!
Pilots love Windy.com !
Thanks for the great app. -
@Korina
Hi! I find that ECMWF is the most accurate in my areas. Still, I like to compare the various models! 🧢 💦 -
@Korina Here in Ireland I find the ECMWF model to be most accurate.
-
I use ECMWF and GFS also does great for the northern and upper parts of my country Pakistan. ECMWF all the way where I live in Sialkot City.
-
I mainly rely on the ICON-D2 weather. But most of the time I’m using the weather radar and satellite views.
-
@Korina In Belgium I mainly use ECMWF because it is the most accurate from my experiences, but I often compare with GFS for more in depth info.
-
I mostly check ICON and ECMWF for Germany, ICON seems to be more detailed, e.g. for amount of precipitation.
-
I am frequently sailing in Croatia. I prefer the ECMWF. It appears to be a very reliable forecast model. Just now I experience the precise prognosis, helping a lot in planing the trips.

@Korina
I use the ECMWF for planning purpose when flying, sailing , commuting etc. Great app. Thanks. I know you are not fond of showing wheater fronts, however much information provided when knowing where they are and where going. Please provide an overlay with fronts.
