Understanding the Compare Forecast Feature in Windy.com
-
For me ECMWF was the primary one for a long time (based on information about different models given in the application) - but since a year ago I actually use compare every time I check weather. I actually got used to it so much that I would like to have compare as a default mode in the application.
-
In the UK I use ICON-D2 and UKV if we have "normal" south westerlies, but when the wind goes into the east often METEROBLUE gives a more reliable prediction.
-
I usually look on the ECMWF but when the conditions tends to become unstable I compare the models in the app.
During exceptional uncertain conditions I use three extra governmental services, but still telly on the ECMWF as the median.
-
I mostly look at ECMWF which seems to be the most reliable in Barcelona Spain
-
Of the forecasts on windy, I use the ecmwf the most. Please add the Canadian GEM-Global (gdps)
-
@Korina ciao Korina, i am using a lot arome for the wind and our sail regatta
-
@Korina I am addicted to Windy, I use it daily and also on my motorcycle trips here in Brazil and in South America, I use the ECMWF model because here in South America the coverage is better.
-
@Korina The ECMWF has served us stunningly well over the last five years. We've used ECMWF sailing in Puget Sound WA, SE Alaska, US Pacific Coast, Aegean Sea, Carribean Sea, and Sea of Cortez Mexico. We really appreciate the compare models tool.
-
In the area of Colorado where I live, the forecasts provided by the local TV stations are often unreliable due to the mountainous area. As a newer subscriber to Windy, I have just started using the compare model’s feature to see how accurate they are and to learn when to use each model.
-
In Romania I use the ECMWF model.
-
ECMWF! It’s my fave

Hi, using the Met Office UKV model most of the time.
I am on the fringe of forecast area here in NW-Germany. Still it seems to give the best forecast (6 to 8 h). I am amazed by the high resolution it has. Non apparent with ECMWF.
May be I am biased, as I used to live in the UK for 13 years and I know how difficult and unpredictable some weather situations can be.My motto used to be: if you don't like the forecast. Then pick another one!
Keep up the good work.

I am using the GFS model. Just today it was the most pessimistic of all the models and ideed it actually rained in the end 😁
-
ECWMF for Belgium as it provides longer predictions
-
@Korina In New Zealand, I look at ECMWF the most, and I use Compare a lot, and watch the models. The 'best' change least as the models converge toward the actual weather that happens. As you say, it gives confidence if they agree more, early. Cheers, Kurt
-
@Korina I'm at Pipiwai Northland and the GFS Model seems to be more accurate for me.
-
@Korina For the Czechia I use mostly ICON-D2 model.
-
@Korina usually i use ECMWF but for mountains, canyons etc I use Meteoblue
-
ECMWF as a basis and ICON-EU with meteoblue in case there is uncertainty.
-
@Korina ICON works well in France, and I use it most of the time. Nonetheless, as a pilot, the compare tool is extremely useful to better plan flights !
