Widgets on Android stopped working after the last update

@Ondřej-Šutera, thank you for the response on this. Experiencing the same trouble with the widget ever since v39.x was released a few weeks ago. The widget is blank with a persistent notification of it attempting to refresh data.
I have removed the app, restarted, and installed the latest version. Also tried the instructions above. I'm running eOS "S" \ Android 12.

@madjoe Same on Android 13

Enabling notifications solved the widget issue on Lenovo tablet 👍 -
On my Sony XPeria 1 V running Android 13 the widgets are currently running so so.
There was an update for Windy which I installed which didn‘t change the version number, so it‘s still 39.1.4
The weather radar widget is currently updating most of the time, but often is around an hour behind.
With version 38.x I was used to a maximum of 10-15 minutes, so pretty up to date.
One time the widget didn‘t refresh at all and I had to do it manually.
As always after an update I force stopped the app, cleared the cache and re-setup the widgets.
All permissions are granted, also notifications.
This is still not optimal. The weather radar should not be that far behind in time and it should consistently update and not get stuck sometimes.
I hope you can sort out what‘s happening here.
Best Regards,
Thomas -
@thomasn-1 Hi. The widgets are not designed to update every 10-15 minutes. The operating system restricts widget updates so 1 hour updates are completely normal.
-
@MarkNagy thats clear to me and it wouldn’t make sense to update these widgets every 10 minutes while not looking at them but then the widgets must have been quicker to update once I activate the phone screen than they are now because with 38.x as written when checking the weather radar, it was usually a maximum of 10-15 behind while now, I often see 1h+
Just switched on my phone, it‘s 21:52 already on the lock screen I see a notification from Windy that it‘s updating the widget which is 31 minutes old and the weather radar shows a timestamp of 16:05 and the spinning circle in the top left corner.
This is clearly still not working.BTW
I‘m also using the weather app of the German Weather Service and their widgets work just fine. The weather radar always shows me a situation which is not older than 10-15 minutes once I wakeup the phone and check the display.
Unfortunately this only works for Germany and I prefer the Windy widgets off course especially when travelling so I hope that will be sorted out. -
Next update fixed it. At least for me. Thanks
-
@freezoid What version is listed for the updated Windy app? Thank you in advance.

Enabling notifications solved the widget issue on Lenovo tablet 👍Good tip. I had them disabled and after re-enabling them it worked again. However, now there's an annoying popup everytime the widget refreshed, which was the reason I had notifications off in the first place. 😆
-
Enabling notifications did not solve it for me, I have them enabled all the time.
Sometimes in the morning I see a notification that the widget is updating and the system tells me, that this notification is there since 37 minutes but the weather radar widget shows data from the previous afternoon with the loading cycle spinning.
So no, notifications don‘t make a difference on my system :-/ -
@sethro2 latest version is 39.1.4 built 2023-07-21 06:30
-
@MarkNagy Appreciate it and that is the version I am using as well. Just removed the app entirely and rebooted... going to reinstall later.
Also, found the app could not obtain a GPS location no matter how many times I hit "Find location" in the upper right. No events in Error Console. Strange stuff.

I reinstalled Windy from app store (v39.1.4). Ensured notification, location, and battery permissions are enabled accordingly. Also verified network traffic to several windy.com endpoints was not being blocked by the firewall and NextDNS. Switched between WiFi and Cellular Only. Still the same issues with App/GPS and Widget/Perpetual Refresh.
Endpoints:
node.windy.com
ims.windy.com
ims-s.windy.com
account.windy.com[Edit] Also seeing Windy accessing Location service under Permission Manager.

@sethro2 Can you specify your device, please? Thanks. Btw next hotfix version should be released within a few days.
-
@MarkNagy sounds good! Will keep an eye out for it and advise.
I am on a Oneplus 9 Pro.

I confirm that they don't work properly.
The Windy Radar needs reinstallation from scratch (after the last update I deleted it from my home page and then I installed it again). Also the play button needs to be pressed 2-3 times, 2-3 seconds to start working.
The live camera needs much time to start working every morning after reconnecting to internet.

Sorry to say but I disabled battery optimization on my Huawei p30 lite, yet windy widget is several hours behind. It says 37 degrees right now but it's 29 o Urla İzmir..
Likewise hitting the 3 dot's and selecting refresh does nothing.. -

Update: only the temperature is not updated in widget.
Enabling notifications fixed the widget forecast auto refresh to me, however the current temperature is not updating not even when I manually refresh the widget.

There's one interesting addition to it: when you change location, then manually refresh it, the widget updates successfully. It's not successful when you don't change location.
Same behaviour here.

@MarkNagy I saw v39.1.4 (July 28th) show up in the App Store this morning. Same issues after updating but not sure if this release has the hot fix.
-
@sethro2 it stopped working again. Wasn't refreshing for few days and now it's blank again...
App Version 39.1.4Btw I've been using windy for years and the widget always needed manual refreshing. Never updated on its own.
