Widgets on Android stopped working after the last update
-
Hi, as it was mentioned here already, we already released an update (version 39.1.4, build date 2023-7-28), which should help to solve major problems with widgets since the update to version 39. Please check this post for more info.

@Ondřej-Šutera that I understood thx.
How about a refresh every 15 minutes to make the widget more usable. Is this something you consider? The Windy weather radar on my IPad does this. -
I think that @MarkNagy already said this here in Widgets on Android stopped working after the last update:
@thomasn-1 Thanks for the suggestions. As you mentioned, 15 minute updates would be using the battery much more. Unfortunately widgets are not designed to fetch data when you check the screen with the installed widgets - in fact the widget does not have a trigger which indicates this action. Anyway we will consider implementation of a much more frequent widget update option.
-
@MarkNagy thank you for the note and installed latest version along with following instructions. The app still cannot grab a GPS location which I suspect is causing the widget to spin endlessly. Permission Manager shows Windy polling for a location tho.
/e/OS (port of Lineage OS) is releasing an update soon so will see if that has any positive effect on v39.x. Will go back to using v38.1.5 in the meantime.
-
Remove at last that annoying widget refresh animation (spinning circle) please. It is nonstop spinning. Thanks
-
@Ondřej-Šutera Even with a complete uninstall, then installing the new version, disabling the battery optimization didn't change anything for me. The widget still doesn't update unless I switch to a new location. Manual refreshes don't change anything reg. the temperature. Horrible experience. (Android 8)
-
@madjoe And do you have version 39.1.4 with build date 2023-7-28? All this info is at the bottom of the menu.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera That's exactly my build date/version.
-
@Roman-Pertzian-2 why?
Then we don‘t even see that something is not working and can‘t report the issue! -
@madjoe Same for me as above.

I've installed this version/build yesterday and the widget still can't refresh the forecast and current temperature, not even when I force update it via the elipsis > refresh button. If I change location and go back to GPS, the widget refreshes fine.
-
I have this same issue with the widget, removed widgets, uninstalled windy, installed windy, added widgets, added location and battery permissions. Still not updating, even the auto update doesn't work, I have to open the app to see what the temperature is.
-
Okay, thank you for confirmation, I will forward this to colleagues to consider further options. I am sorry for these troubles with widgets and I am asking for a patience with this.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera Let me know if you guys need me to capture any logs in the meantime. Just tell me what debug app to load if so. Thanks for staying on this!
-
@sethro2 Hi. Thanks for the help. Have you tried our latest beta? I think it was released yesterday.
-
@MarkNagy happy to give the latest beta a try. The Public Beta section in the forum is closed. Is there a direct download link that I can use?
-
@sethro2 We are releasing a new version. It should be available for all users within days.
-
@MarkNagy v39.1.5 hit the App Store this morning and can confirm the Widget is behaving as expected on my device now. The only bug I am seeing is with the App getting a GPS location. The Widget can do this however shows the GPS coordinates instead of the city.
Love seeing the widget again!
-
@sethro2 Can you specify the location, which causes this?
-
@Ondřej-Šutera I am in Beavercreek, Ohio, United States.
