Widgets on Android stopped working after the last update
-
@ArendvanE I mean same settings (auto-update, permissions, same battery usage,...), it doesn't have anything to do with the version of app.

My app updated to 39.1.4 yesterday, and the widgets are behaving strangely. The app itself seems to be working fine. Samsung One UI 4.0 (Android 12).
At first, widget was black/empty as in this topic's opening post. I've tried removing and adding the widget back, and got a single day displayed:
After a few hours, it was showing the five days as usual, but with a red circle arrow (meaning it's refreshing) instead of the icon on the top left corner. There's definitely something wrong there...
Edit: I've restarted the phone and got a blank widget again:

Windy was updated today, july17. After this, the widget I use stopped working. Re-installibg the app helps only to install a new widget, but it looks very different from the widget preview!

Temperature in widget is not refreshing.
-
@PerryT Do you use a custom theme on your device?
-
... the same by me !!!

After a discussion with colleagues, here are the instructions how to restart widget after the update. It is necessary especially now, when the update get a lot of changes in almost everything.
- Remove all widgets
- Open windy application settings
- allow Notifications
- Go to Permissions - enable location (Allow all the time)
- Go to Battery - allow unrestricted battery usage
- add new widget
If the widget does not show correctly after the first update refresh the widget manually
Also if these steps won't help, please try to reinstall the app and try the process again. -
@Ondřej-Šutera I have done all this, but I am afraid the temperature still isn't updating in the widget.

I have not managed to get the widget to work since updating last Monday. Screenshot_2023-07-19-09-18-38-20_b783bf344239542886fee7b48fa4b892.jpg

I second this. After the recent update, not only the widget doesn't update (manually or automatically), but it's way harder to press the 3-dots at the upper-right corner of the widget in order to click that manual refresh button. The new Premium/Settings/Refresh buttons keep disappearing on the first 3 pressing the 3-dots in the corner. My overall experience using the widget is worsened.
After clearing the cache, uninstalling then installing Windy again, only the very first time the widget gets the data needed for the location. I have the "Updating widget" notification in my notification tray and it stuck up there without doing anything. Any other refresh request obviously fails regardless all permissions are set to allowed.

Samen Here, constantly trying to Update widget. Galaxy S9

@darrinbowen Since we fully released the last update yesterday (Tuesday), can you please follow the process I shared?
-
@Ondřej-Šutera looks like it works with the latest update, thank you. But three dot button in the widget top right isn't clickable now.
-
@antsyferov my widget has been updating for 2 days and is using a lot of battery. Think I will delete the app until they get it fixed.
-
@antsyferov Unfortunately, this can be affected by version of SW in mobile device and SW from the manufacturer.
-
@eclectic Did you update them, asi I described above, and do you have the latest version, which was released yesterday?

The whole app keeps crashing from 19th July. Clear cache or reinstall not working. Google Pixel 7a.
-
@soami Hi. We are aware of this issue on Android 14 beta. The crash is caused by a third party library. We are working on the solution.

Hello there, same problem for me.
I was running Windy version 38.x on a Sony XPeria 1 V on Android 13 using Nova Launcher and everything was working fine. The widgets got the location and refreshed fine.
After updating to 39.1.4 the widgets show the reported behavior:- Widgets don't refresh any more
- Manual refresh works
- I see a notification that the Windy widget is updating which lasts for hours
- The Sony launcher is constantly showing me Windy as an actively running app
The following I did according to your suggestions in this thread:
- Ensured Windy has permission to show notifications
- Ensured Windy has permission to always access the location
- Ensured Windy is not optimized with regards to power consumption
- Ensured Windy has permission to access data in the background
- Ensured that android does not remove permissions for Windy by itself or susped the app if not used
- Force stopped Windy and cleared the cache
- Deleted the widgets and added them again
- Reinstalled the whole app
Nothing helped, same behavior.
In between there was NO change of my phone. No Android update, no update to Nova, no change of settings. Just the update from Windy 38.x to 39.1.4
We have a second XPeria 1 V with an identical setup but using the free version without login, same problem, so that makes no difference.
