Horrible Update
-
What happened to the little pin drop you had that showed wind speed? Now there’s a target there that disappears after a few seconds. I can’t look at the wind graphics and the wind speed on the top of the page at the same time. Please make it go back to where it was before. I am not happy with your update either.

Aaahh windy is awesome i love this product. But my immediate reaction to this update was not positive. I prefer the old weather picker, the textual layer menu on the right hand side rather than the images, the « normal » sided menu hamburger..the new gui is clunky. Can we p’ease have the option of reverting to the old version?
Cheers, and I appreciate everyone working hard for this awesome app.

@idefix37 You are right that the switch button between these two sections would be ideal, I will discuss this with colleagues.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera do you know if there are any plans to undo this update and revert to the previous one?
-
@starweather2020 I think that we cannot talk about reverting to the old version, however, it is possible that some changes will be made according to feedbacks. At this moment, I don't have any specific info about this.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera Thank you. If you could at least give us an option to make the distance and planning feature work the way it used to then I can go back to using Windy. I’m not concerned with the large icons - they look ridiculous but you would get used to it. Thanks again for your response.
-
@starweather2020 which device do you use? I am asking since route planner on the desktop version has been same the whole time and mobile devices has this feature for the first time.
However, we know about certain bugs in the route planner. -
@Ondřej-Šutera
Remember previous long discussions.
@starweather2020 would like to use the the Distance & planning tool on iPad as it was before the update i.e showing waypoints coordinates with the possibility to delete and grab waypoints. This is not possible now because when you switch to Route planner the Coords table disappears. -
@idefix37 Thank you for clarifying this, despite this info being already mentioned. I will discuss this with colleagues, however, I don't think that iPad would get the desktop version in the future.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera
No, but in the Route planner page it would be useful to have the option to display the Coords table or to switch back to the Distance & planning without deleting the Route . -
@idefix37 I already made a bug for this and forwarded it to colleagues.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera
Or more simpler probably for an app modification and more intuitive for the user:
Just give the possibility to delete, grab and add waypoints in the Distance & planning tool, not only in the Route planner itself. -
@starweather2020 I'm deleting this app, the last updates were horrible and the widget doesn't work properly anymore....not worth it anymore, btw. . widgets are quite bad, not to say horrible
-
Připojuji se k názoru, že poslední update není tak tak úplně povedený. Z widgetu například zmizelo ozubené kolečko pro rychlé přepínání polohy, zmizela i ikonka pro aktualizaci widgetu přímo z plochy.

@idefix37 Good Morning! That is exactly right - to be able to delete, grab (and move) and add waypoints with the distance and planning tool. In addition, to be able to put your first waypoint on a precise latitude and longitude (you will need to show the latitude and longitude of the cross hairs at all times) and then you also need the bearing and distance between each subsequent waypoint before you drop the waypoint. When doing human routing advice (as opposed to AI), the course and speed of the sailboat will depend on the forecasted wind speed and direction, which can vary immensely based on where you think the boat will be in the future. For this reason, it is important to be able to place waypoints (of future dead reckoning positions for the sailor) with reasonable accuracy. It is not unusual for me to place future waypoints at 12 hour intervals into the future for up to 5 days. With the new coordinates table showing with 10 coordinates, almost half the map is hidden. It was better before with the table in the bottom left of the screen.
I did want to add that I find the Euro model extremely accurate and because of that I am able to advise my sailors to almost the exact hour of frontal passages and wind shifts. Also rain and thunder forecasts for squalls tend to be very accurate. Of course I do need to have the ability to plot their positions in the oceans (I do trans Atlantic and trans Pacific weather routing) accurately, and that is my problem at the moment. The previous version worked brilliantly for me on my iPad before. So 👍👍on all the weather information you provide, just need to fix the plotting feature.
Thank you -
Hello,
It's a shame you can't do your routing work on the browser version on desktop/laptop, on PC, Mac, whatever.
Because you would have this:With the ability there to add, delete or move waypoints
Is it because you do your routing work at sea while sailing and therefore prefer a mobile device? -
@idefix37 That is correct, I am on the boat a lot or otherwise traveling and the iPad works well because I have cell service on it, so I can use it to do my routing whenever I am, in the car or even in a restaurant. I can use the PC at home and replicate what your screen shot is showing, and I have used it in the past, but the reason I preferred the iPad was that I did not have to contend with that mess of weather information covering the bottom of the screen. Windys route planning option might be good for flying or on a cruise ship with a predetermined course and speed, but it does not work for sailors.
I have also noted some pilots on your feedback not happy with the new version, because they are too using iPads I would imagine. They are so convenient!
Anyway, I appreciate you looking into it and hopefully something will be resolved. -
@idefix37 Sorry, I meant to add that yes, the functionality of the PC to move, add, delete waypoints with a side bar showing coordinates, course and distance is perfect. I would just like that functionality brought back for the iPad users. Thanks

@starweather2020 After almost a month without insight, unfortunately it had to be. Since I canceled the premium subscription, I feel much better with the new update and all the new bugs.
