Needs the old style menu back!
-
I am ok with the update but I do NOT It like at all the new side menu. Its now slow to navigate and the menu pops out so slow, I can make coffee will it comes out from the side
I liked that small menu because it allows me to MUCH faster go through the different weather layers. The big icons might look cool, but they all look the same to the eye and it takes me a lot more time to find the icon…. And each time it rolls out when I want to change.This change was clearly done by a UI designer and not by somebody who actually needs to use the application to understand the weather throughly.
Thanks in advance to bring the old style menu back!

@rvantwisk Thank you for the feedback, we collect all reviews about these changes, so we appreciate this.

@rvantwisk Also according to large visual icons and rollout list of layers, did you try to use the list of favorites, where you can have your favorite layers and it is faster to move between them? If you need further info, please let me know.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera Any chance you can allow users to choose between list and gallery view? Like you can on the website?
Just a thought -
I wanted to post something similar so I’ll just add a comment here.
Im not an UX designer but I feel I have an eye for it. Side menu does not take ages to pop up for me, but selection of layer in that grid view is really terrible idea. All pictures look the same at first so it does not help anyhow. Labels are probably even smaller so looking for specific layer is really time wasting. “Dont make me think”, said someone.
I think you’ve increased the font size in sections “show on map” and “forecast model” which is great and readable. Why different approach for layers section?…

I like the new “crosshairs” and associated output when scrolling around the map.
As the OP said, I’m not a fan of the tiles for the sidebar menu. I added favorites but I thumb through a lot of layers so it’s quite slow to find what I need since when the images are so small they start to look the same.
Another poster said it best in my opinion; leave both options available. A “compact” option, if you will, that’s text based like the older style and then also have the tile system for less heavy users or those who simply prefer it.
Also, the new sidebar menu takes up so much screen space. I can no longer slide through from surface up through the atmosphere to get an idea of wind. I have to stop at each level, then close the menu to see. Then open it back up again and repeat.
For all my comments, I still love the app and appreciate all the hard work you all do!

@Wheats Would love to see this as an option. A “compact” style side menu similar to before and the new option for those who want it.

@Ondřej-Šutera I think others did say it aswell. I am currently using favourites because it's better than the large list of icons.
When flying (VFR) I am using 16 layers. I am also using the different forcast models...
so the icons really look so much the same, like fog, visibility, low clouds and clouds are all 'grayish' so I need to read the little letters to find the right one.
I very muched liked where all clouds where grouped under a clouds text menu.This is handy:
I have all 4 clouds 'under' one menu.This is not handy:
(Sorry I was not beable to use a smaller image)
On the ipad the letters are really small, and the icons look all the same, and I cannot order them, tried long tap and drag on each image to move them around like we can do on iPad and I think Android.
hope that helps..
I think for most users that use Windy is about speed of working, not so much the visuals
-
@kubasworld You are not wrong that it takes ages, I was over aggregating here... But there no need to let it scroll in and out that 'slow' it can be at least 4 times faster, the old menu was a lot faster when opening each submenu.

@Ondřej-Šutera wszystko super nowa wersja jest ok ale jak już pisałem wcześniej szkoda że nie ma przycisku dodatkowego dla radaru i satelity. To było wygodne i fajnie gdyby to wróciło jednak
-
@przemo1986 Did you try to pin radar and satellite layers into the Pinned menu? Then you can get to your favorite layers in 2 clicks as in the older version, the only difference is that you can choose any of layers into this "quick menu".

@rvantwisk
As a premium and daily user of your App, I also prefere the old functional sidebar. For me it is much faster to work with. checking the data while on sea, and being mostly concentrated on my guests aboard, I need a quick and focused design, which does not distract from the Information by „non-informatinal graphical features“!
I would very much appreciate a step back.

@rvantwisk Agree wholeheartedly.

@przemo1986 Can you please specify these places where you see English? Do you have Polish set as a default?
