Needs the old style menu back!
-
@Wheats Would love to see this as an option. A “compact” style side menu similar to before and the new option for those who want it.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera I think others did say it aswell. I am currently using favourites because it's better than the large list of icons.
When flying (VFR) I am using 16 layers. I am also using the different forcast models...
so the icons really look so much the same, like fog, visibility, low clouds and clouds are all 'grayish' so I need to read the little letters to find the right one.
I very muched liked where all clouds where grouped under a clouds text menu. This is handy:
I have all 4 clouds 'under' one menu. This is not handy:
(Sorry I was not beable to use a smaller image)
On the ipad the letters are really small, and the icons look all the same, and I cannot order them, tried long tap and drag on each image to move them around like we can do on iPad and I think Android.
hope that helps..
I think for most users that use Windy is about speed of working, not so much the visuals
-
@kubasworld You are not wrong that it takes ages, I was over aggregating here... But there no need to let it scroll in and out that 'slow' it can be at least 4 times faster, the old menu was a lot faster when opening each submenu.

@Ondřej-Šutera wszystko super nowa wersja jest ok ale jak już pisałem wcześniej szkoda że nie ma przycisku dodatkowego dla radaru i satelity. To było wygodne i fajnie gdyby to wróciło jednak
-
@przemo1986 Did you try to pin radar and satellite layers into the Pinned menu? Then you can get to your favorite layers in 2 clicks as in the older version, the only difference is that you can choose any of layers into this "quick menu".

@rvantwisk
As a premium and daily user of your App, I also prefere the old functional sidebar. For me it is much faster to work with. checking the data while on sea, and being mostly concentrated on my guests aboard, I need a quick and focused design, which does not distract from the Information by „non-informatinal graphical features“!
I would very much appreciate a step back.
Thanks for listening to Customers. -
@Ondřej-Šutera kiedy będzie pełne tłumaczenie aplikacji ? Widzę część menu ustawień w języku angielskim
-
@rvantwisk Agree wholeheartedly.
-
@przemo1986 Can you please specify these places where you see English? Do you have Polish set as a default?
-
@Ondřej-Šutera tak mam w menu nie są przetłumaczone
-
@przemo1986 Okay, thank you for reporting this. I will forward it to colleagues.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera tutaj też gdzie dodaje się temperaturę wiatr również nie ma tłumaczenia.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera Dzień dobry były już z trzy poprawki a tłumaczenie nadal nie działa
-
@przemo1986 Hello, we will update it with next version.
-
hello, any new on this subject? The menu's are still very messy and have not seen any changes regarding proper orders of the menu's, not even under the pin.
Cloud, Cloud base and visibility is still all over the place and the icons still make it hard to see which is which..
thanks!
-
@rvantwisk Unfortunately, there are no plans to give the old menu back.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera Are there any plans to show icons in the pins more grouped together?
Hate to say it, but it's still a frustration to work with Windy on the app.. -
@rvantwisk Unfortunately, it is not planned now.

@Ondřej-Šutera I would like to chime in here and express my view that this is a poor decision. I understand the desire to have a larger gallery-style UI and where it can benefit, but for other specific users (such as your power users like pilots or skippers) minimizing confusion and interaction time is paramount. Other users might have an older device (like myself with an iPhone SE Gen2 - so iPhone 7/8 screen) that just doesn't have the display real estate for the interface in its new proportions.
I understand not wanting to fully support both the old and new UI as you develop further features, but I strongly suggest you consider possible alternative solutions.
Perhaps there could be a toggle in settings to turn off the large "metro" design language style tiles, and use icons that are a portion of the size of the tile (e.g. half)? All the tiles seem to have unique icons already, so just use that icon (but larger and easier to identify) and then you can fit more icons in a row (potentially 6 instead of three in the screenshots from @przemo1986 ).
That alone, when combined with the existing pin feature, would immediately resolve many of the concerns that have been expressed here.
