Route Planning by Car

Does anybody use the planning option to set a route by car? I'd like to if I can climb that learning curve. It seems the app is oriented more to direct-line routing which would be suitable for aircraft pilots in filing a flight plan. Is there a plugin that marries GPS apps like Google Maps with Windy's weather layers? If not, is there a way I can use point-to-point planning that at least helps me consider the weather along our route in a simple enough way to make it useful?

Yes, the route planner is mainly oriented for flights or sailing. But it can be used for a road trip.
If you use the website, you can import GPX files to plot the route. But this functionality is not (or not yet?) available in the mobile app.
If you are plotting your future route on the map yourself, remember that you can simplify the track as the ECMWF model has a resolution of 9 km, so there is no need to stick in detail to the route. -
