Please bring back the weather picker as before
-
Yes, on iPad, this is not a step forward. I imagine this was done to only have one app to manage rather than 2 in the past, on iOS and iPadOS.
-
@idefix37 please consider addressing the problem you have created for iPad users. Anyone with aging or low vision can’t really use phone apps for this kind of detail. You will lose a lot of users over this regressive move.
-
@H71rockhopper Me too. Please post if you find something. So frustrating.
-
I also agree, the new layer selector / weather picker is terrible compared to the previous one. Takes a lot longer to figure out how to pull up the layer you want, and the altitudes are worse.
Please change back! This is terrible. I won’t keep my premium subscription for this.
-
@clownburner Did you try to use the pinned menu? Basically, it has the same function as the Radar, Satellite button in the previous version, but you can add any layers under this button. So you can have quick access to Radar, Rain or Extreme forecast.
If you have any questions about this don't hesitate to contact me. -
@damienhays I agree it is rubbish even when selected and scrolling through the time the picker just dissapears
-
@gravityslave_nz You can set the picker to be always on, so it won't disappear during browsing the timeline, or playing the animation. You can find this in your setting.
-
@idefix37 Thankyou for pointing this out! Of course I know it is the browser version I took the screenshot (from the browser version on my Mac) to show how it should have remained for the app on my iPad and on my phone. The new weather picker is totally useless.
PLEASE WINDY BRING BACK THE WEATHER PICKER AS IT WAS BEFORE ON ALL DEVICES!
-
@Ondřej-Šutera I already had changed this setting to “Always on” but it does not remain on my iPad version of the app
-
@Ondřej-Šutera Yes, I'm sure we have all tried using the new pinned menu. As a professional pilot and long time Premium user, I have many layers of interest, and pinning them has just created a big collection of randomly presented thumbnails instead of a nice, sensibly-grouped list of layers.
This is not forward progress in my opinion, I'm sad to say.
-
@pilotmatt Took the words out of my mouth. Yes, we have all tried, but the most 'trying' right now are almost-arrogant sounding developers telling their paying customers what they should and should not like.
Nothing has annoyed me more in recent weeks than people destroying what was for me a very regular, enjoyable visual feast of weather .. with a nicely laid out, intuitive, uncluttered, logical menu. Now it's been run over by a bus!
SAD.
-
@Veracis Totally agree with you all. While I appreciate the developers trying to keep improving the app for us all, this has just made it look more fancy but now extremely challenging and cumbersome to use. Hope they listen to all of their paying customers and bring back the simplicity and functionality we all appreciated for so long on this app.
-
Not listening to user feedback says a lot about the current state of things, I will stop being a premium member after many years... it's sad to move on but what's the alternative? Being told that nono you as the user are using the product wrong? That's the worst thing you can say as a company.
-
Estaba pensando hacer la cuenta premium pero veo muchas criticas , si la app decide cambiar y volver a estar funcional pagare la premium.
-
I am no longer able to find the current navigation useful. In fact it is dangerous for sailing, I'm unable to see all days in a row, along with their forecasts. I will downgrade and move to another app of the previous table ia not being brought back. Please fix this asap.
-
@dreamstimer @bennwatson @clownburner @damienhays @dreamstimer @gravityslave_nz @H71rockhopper @idefix37 @H71rockhopper @jkdramatop @pilotmatt Hello, I think there is some misunderstanding when it comes to the picker.
Picker has not disappeared, the only difference is that the values are displayed in the top part of the screen so you have more space on the actual map.
-
Windy Dev Team - you should really consider to rollback the update. You can see across different posts that his has been the worst update in the whole life of this amazing app.
Hsy you have not done canary release with smaller group of people testing the app, to bring back the valuable insights. Not listening to the users will have catastrophic effect, so please, don't make this mistake.
-
@Korina It's the "way" in which the picker used to work that "HAS" disappeared! It is the developers who are not understanding.
And you say it's to free up more map space? How ironic when you've chosen to delete another favourite of everyone (the written drop down layer list) and clutter the map area with an ugly mini-picture style menu.
Is it a translation issue, an I.Q. issue, or an arrogance issue?
-
@Korina With all due respect, there is less map visible when you show coordinates. Can I ask you to perform the following hypothetical exercise to try to explain to you some of the problems that you have created with the new UI.
A sailboat heading from Virginia Beach to Newfoundland. We are going to do the weather routing for him using your distance and planning feature. This used to be a brilliant feature of Windy.
First day out he is forecast to have a good following wind so I will assume a speed of 6 knots or 144 nautical miles for the first day, on a suggested course of 060T.
Second day, not so much wind so he is likely to slow to 5 knots or 120 miles. Same course.
Third day, light north north east winds, 110 miles course 080
Fourth day no wind , motor towards the destination at 5 knots. And so on….I am doing this on an IPad because windy used to work perfectly on the iPad for me.
If you go ahead and try to do this exercise for yourself you will immediately see a number of problems and you will see it is impossible to perform this task, which used to be simple.
- When trying to determine where to drop a waypoint based on course, you can’t.
- When trying to drop subsequent waypoints you can’t see the distance between them or the bearing before dropping the pin.
- When you “show coords” and the box drops down and and after a number of waypoints have been dropped, you can no longer see what you are doing if you are heading north.
- You can’t move a previously placed waypoint while you are laying out the course.
- You can’t zoom our to see where your destination is or get a wider picture of the weather systems while you are doing this plotting without the darn weather picker ending up who knows where.
It is frustrating and useless.
Before your update I was providing a weather routing service for sailors. Windy was absolutely brilliant for this. I was happy to pay the premium and would have paid more. I have since suspended my business and taken down my website starweatherrouting.com because trying to use the new windy is impossible and I would not be able to provide accurate routing suggestions to my clients. I am suggesting to them to use PredictWind instead.
I have been reading the feedback from your customers and it’s obvious 95% of them are unhappy with this update. You should seriously consider reverting to the previous version.
-
I totally agree. Lets get our old weather picker back.
The new weather picker opens automatically. Why?
In previous version I could drag the weather picker wherever I wanted. Now I have to center the map. Why? Very annoying because doing so, it opens every weather station it touches when I drag the map. Why does it open weather stations which are not relevant to me?
My tablet is lagging so heavily and it is so annoying that I can not use this weather picker.
So yes, I am considering other weather apps because of this.
