inconsistent surface winds, BIH/CA airport
-
folks,
windy is telling me the surface winds at Bishop, CA are 1~2 W,
but a BIH (Bishop airport, CA) pilots weather report says 20 kts SI'm willing to believe the airport weather report since I fly the Owens
Valley a lot and it seems to be what I'd expectso the question is why is windy so far off from actual observable and reported conditions.
I am aware that the Owens Valley has its own micro meteorology, especially katabatic N surface winds at night and the reverse (anti-katabatibc ?) S surface winds in the day, and these are often at odds with more global wind patterns, but these conditions are being measured and reported
I could believe that such micro-meteorology is too difficult to model, but if that's the case I'd like to hear it from the experts
thanks,
Peter A Lawrence.
