Solved Android v.39: Widget loading issues
-
We are aware of technical issues with widgets after the latest update to version 39. Since the update was very comprehensive, we came up with certain steps that should help to get your Windy widgets work again. Basically it is necessary to reset all widgets and these steps contain allowances to all aspects that are necessary for working widgets.
- Remove all widgets
- Open windy application settings
- Allow Notifications
- Go to Permissions - enable location (Allow all the time)
- Go to Battery - allow unrestricted battery usage
- Add new widgets
If, after all these steps, you still have issue with loading widgets in version 39, please try to reinstall the app and check the latest updates, since we still work on fixes that could help to prevent these problems. Thank you for patience.

What worked for me was, deleting the app cache, deleting the storage, uninstalling, and then reinstalling. After that the Windy updating notification in the notification bar went away.

UPDATE: We released the update for the latest version 39.1.4 with the build date 2023-7-28. It should solve all issues with bad communication of widgets, so when you add new widgets, they should inform you about everything necessary to set in their setup.
According to these changes, we also need any possible help from our users, so if you still have issues after you updated to the latest version with the build date mentioned above and even after all steps we suggested in this thread, please let us know.

@Ondřej-Šutera Thank you so much! Now I have only one problem. The widgets use more space than really need. If I resize widgets to lower size all data isn't readable
-
@HedgehogInTheFog Unfortunately, this is known problem and many devices used to have this issue even with the old version. We are not able to provide 4x1 widget for every devices, so we offer 4x2 as a default one.

@Ondřej-Šutera not fixed here. Just signed up for annual subscription two days ago and widgets are blank and constantly updating. There's no option to update the app yet here.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera
It doesn't work.
I did that after reading the posts here.
I've already reinstalled the app and restarted Android several times. -
@Mfrizzell @tubuname Do you already have version 39.3.2? Also, when you get to the settings of these widgets, did you handle all necessities so widgets can work (They usually appear in widget setting as an info box)?
According to the issues, we know about certain number of devices, which they have separate app or software in settings, that optimize the system by deleting certain part of memory, this can also affect the behavior of widgets on Android.

@Ondřej-Šutera
Do you already have version 39.3.2?
I have already installed that version many times.
When you go to the settings for these widgets, have you taken care of everything needed for the widgets to work?
Every time I install it, I change the battery and location settings.
I have not added any memory optimization apps, at least not on my own.
I may be doing something wrong on the system side, though,
There is nothing more I can do about it as far as setting it up on my own. -
@tubuname May I know which device you use?

@Ondřej-Šutera
LG VELVET (L-52A) Android12The widget is back to normal. I noticed it's not showing up again, though.
What I did,
-Delete the data from the app.
That's all I did. (Deleting the cache alone didn't work)
I tried many things, but it didn't require uninstalling or restarting Android.
After deleting the app data, I put the widget and it started to show up.But then I noticed that the widget was not showing up again.
Widgets not displayed
Notifications that won't go away
After deleting the app data, I put the widget and it appears for now.
I'm tired of this.

@Ondřej-Šutera Unfortunately, this process is still not working for me and the widgets are nonfunctional. Going through the process above initially fixed the problem but sadly it doesn't last more than a day or so and the widgets are presently black.
System information:
- Windy 39.3.2
- Android 10
- Kernel 4.9.186-22990573
- Samsung Galaxy Note 9

@kylebarbour Please check this post about the topic as well. There is a link at the end to the article, where all possible causes are described.

@Ondřej-Šutera Thank you! I went through the steps again, including deleting all app data and the cache, and things seem to be working for now. Appreciate the reply.
