PLEASE add a config option to disable the weather picker (crosshair)

Since the last update the app is barely usable when zoomed out over an area. This is presumably due to the weather picker (crosshair), since I have never had this issue before this was added. Why is there no option to disable this?
I have a recent flagship phone (Pixel 6) so the app should run smoothly, as it always did before the recent update.
Please at least add the option to turn this feature off. It adds no value for me and ruins the usability.
