Rain radar shows rain when there's not
-
Hi,
sometimes, in different parts of the world, I check the radar and see it's showing ra9in, but actually, it's not raining at all. I saw it more than once at home, while watching a Formula 1 race and recently, in Japan. Here below you can see the local regional rain radar versus Windy Rain radar for my town Treviglio. It was not raining (Bergamo, Italy)
Here below, while watching F1 in Barcelona, local AEMET radar vs Windy radar: it was not raining
I think the radar shows more rain than needed.

Hi @ciclista71, regarding Italy, our source of data is DPC and it might happen that their radars have "seen" different reflectivity than radars of CML you show in the screenshot. It is quite long ago so I cannot confirm that since source data are not available anymore. Also the color at the place you were located at the time (Treviglio) is around 15 dBZ, which isn't really a rain if you check the colorscale at other units (for example mm/h):
It is usually just a bit thicker cloud yet.
Also, the colorscale (which color means which value) might be a bit different from our colorscale so the radar images cannot be compared directly just by eye.Regarding Spain, AEMET is also using a slightly different color scale so direct comparison is also a bit troublesome. Also, from the shape of the features on last two screenshots, it seems to me that they are not from the same time. Is that correct?
If you find any discrepancies in the future, feel free to post them as soon as possible (preferably with UTC timestamps for easier search). I might be able to check the data that are still available a and verify if we're displaying them correctly.

Thanks for your detailed answer.
I understand the dBZ were too low to actually indicate rain, but in that case, it shouldn't be shown as such, right? the rain should be filtered out if the dBZ are lower than X, in my view.
But at least now I know how to "read" that radar and for sure I'll post better screenshots in the future.
