Or at least have option to ‘lock’ the forecast being shown. GA pilot here, & since the new update, zoom-in/out automatically changing the forecast details being shown is making it unusable as an additional source for flight planning

There is a somewhat "hidden" option to solve this.
In the lower right corner of the weather timeline you see "more", there you find an option "Move map to change ...location". This should solve your issue.
Still, I fully support you request to go back to the old location picker or at least adapt the new one, to allow to freely tap on the screen to select a location.

I feel you only too well... After having been hyperventilating A LOT a couple of days ago after having updated to v39, currently my mood is a mixture of mourning acceptance and continuing to provide constructive suggestions to the Windy team:
- I'm afraid, we have to accept the new layer-list.
- But I really really hope, that well formulated, constructive suggestions might lead to some positive changes with regards to the new location selection process. I can only hope, that the Windy team will positively answer to my prayers in this respect...
