Nautical upgrades to Windy
-
Can you please look into overlays for Nautical users. I work on a Super Yacht and we use windy for costal passages, it would be nice to have depths and chartered information available to be able to overlay with weather inputs. Garmin and Navionics are two good companies to use however Transas would be ideal as they have ENCS. I find most of the time with wind gust forecasts, the gusts are consistently around 5 knots more. It would be great to have a reporting function where we could report actual weather in the area we are to get a more accurate forecast.

@AIFER
In fact you just want that Windy become a navigation app, like Navionics, Garmin or Transas ?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_navigational_chartNot a small task !!
Have you asked to your preferred ENC to pay for including Windy in their navigation software ?
They ask for huge subscription, by each navigational area. I imagine you would like a free navigation app all around the world.You mainly consider the Wind gusts, it’s very strange for me because at sea we usually look at the average Wind. Have you tried to look at the different models ? They don’t compute the wind gusts in the same way.

@idefix37 Good day,
Dear Windy Support Team,
I am writing to express my immense frustration and disappointment with the current state of the Windy navigation software, a service for which we pay a substantial amount annually. It is truly exasperating to encounter such glaring inaccuracies and a lack of essential features despite the significant financial investment we make in your service.
Let me be abundantly clear from the outset: we are not interested in a free navigating software. We are paying customers of Windy and, as such, we rightfully expect a level of accuracy and functionality that commensurates with the considerable costs we incur. Our organization expends tens of thousands of dollars on navigation software every year, primarily because the system we use is mandated by legal requirements.
I would like to bring your attention to a reasonable and straightforward request that I made, which somehow resulted in an astonishingly obtuse response. I had simply inquired about the possibility of overlaying nautical information, such as depths, onto the Windy application. This request aimed to enhance the utility of your service for our specific needs, but the reply I received was nothing short of bewilderingly unhelpful. How can such a straightforward and valid proposal be met with such a blatantly inadequate response? We are only seeking to improve your weather program for the mutual benefit of your customers and your company.
Having been a Windy user for approximately three years, my patience has worn thin due to the consistent inaccuracy of your wind forecasts. This lack of reliability is a substantial issue, especially considering that we relied on your forecasts during a world cruise. It is not merely an inconvenience; it undermines the trust we place in your service. What's more infuriating is your refusal to offer users the option to submit real-time weather forecasts, a basic feature that could significantly contribute to the accuracy of your predictions. This omission is baffling and severely limits the value of your service.
Let me provide a concrete example to illustrate the severity of the problem. During our time in Brac, Croatia, your forecast projected wind speeds of 20 knots with gusts. However, the actual wind consistently exceeded 25 knots, a discrepancy that could have serious implications for navigational decisions. Meanwhile, your live wind readings remained egregiously inaccurate, showing a mere 12 knots. How can we justify paying for data that is consistently so far off the mark?
In conclusion, I am profoundly disappointed by the quality of service we are receiving from Windy. The inaccuracies, the lack of responsiveness to valid suggestions, and the absence of essential features have eroded our confidence in your product. As paying customers, we expect better, and I implore you to address these issues promptly and comprehensively. Our organization's reliance on accurate weather data is not a luxury; it's a necessity, and your service is currently failing us in this crucial aspect.
I eagerly await your immediate attention to these matters and a resolution that befits the substantial investment we have made in your software.

Good day,
I would first like to say that I am not part of the Windy team. So my answer commits only me.
Windy is above all a weather app, very useful at sea. But your request to integrate nautical chart information such as sounding depths and navigation aids, does not seem like a small addition to me. But hopefully Windy could, may be, accede to your request. In the meantime I would just suggest that you export the route plotted on one of your navigation software, in GPX format, and import it into Windy.You say you spend tens of thousands of dollars for your navigation software, but do you pay more than the 18 euros annual subscription to Windy?
Concerning the forecast accuracy, it is important to note that Windy does not make weather predictions but only visualises forecast and actual data received from various weather centers, including the world's major weather forecast model providers such as ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts), GFS (NOAA), NEMS (MeteoBlue), Icon (DWD), etc.
Windy therefore has no control over the forecast or actual data provided and the issues regarding their accuracy.Your example of imprecise forecast on the coasts of Croatia is a good case. On this very indented coast, bordered by mountains, the forecast of winds and coastal breezes is not easy. A very high resolution model would be needed, but this type of model is not available everywhere.
The models I mentioned above are offered in Windy on the Croatian coasts. Do you check them all? It seems to me that the NEMS 4 km model is interesting because it shows the effect of coastal breezes and provides more details in the wind field.
Shown with my customized wind color scaleYou can try also ICON D2 with 2.2km resolution covering only a part of Croatia.
Good winds and safe navigation.
