New UI is very frustrating....

@Ben-Whitehead
I agree with most of your concerns. Just 2 remarks:- To keep the cross-hair, you can change its display duration in Settings.
- The timeline is disappearing on Android devices when using the system buttons. This should be fixed shortly. In the meantime reload the app and avoid using these buttons.
-
I agree with you.
There are a number of really problematic changes to the UI that slows down interaction with the app significantly. There is a multitude of complaints from many users with regards to the new UI that was introduced in v39.
Here a long thread that I started with the goal, to discuss certain issues of the new UI: https://community.windy.com/topic/27614/feature-request-tap-map-to-select-location-no-auto-zoom
Since the Windy staff seems not to be willing to adapt the new UI, I decided to downgrade to the previous version and dump this awful v39.
You can find the apk file of the older versions at apkmirror

@idefix37 thank you. I'll try this now.
-
@Ftjwinfs thanks for taking the time to respond with a very interesting solution. I will look for the older version on apkmirror as you suggest.
Thanks!
-
@idefix37 setting the "weather picker" to always on has resolved one of the issues. Thank you for that.
It's still annoying that the wind speed has been moved to the top left of the display. I'm sure it used to be by the crosshair or down left - as that is where my eyes keep automatically looking for it.
-
@Ben-Whitehead Yes, it has been a fantastic app for years that I have promoted. Sadly, it's becoming more basic without the beautifully refined offerings it used to have. I so wish the Windy staff would listen to us and return to the previous version.
I'm going to do a poll on my social media about this. ✌️🙏
-
If you do a poll or plan activities somewhere else please let us know and post links here in the forum. We should not simply accept what has been done to the app.
-
Do you have a resource to download old IOS versions of the app the apkmirror site only seems to have Android versions. Thanks
-
Unfortunately I do not know about old versions for iOS

Yes, this would be nice to have.

@Ben-Whitehead
I could not agree more. It's now become totally useless to a yachtsman. Try click on the purple patch in a hurricane and it shows a totally illogical number in the top left corner of the screen (like 4 knots!) It used to be interesting and informative to use this app as a trans-ocean sailor. I often used to look at what current prevailing conditions were like in certain seasons in other parts of the world before I sailed there. There was nothing wrong with Windy - now it is downright TERRIBLE! I will now proceed to uninstall the app. Thanks for nothing Windy - you had it all; now you're just aaaaaargghhhhh! -
@Ben-Whitehead I make your word mine.
I regret to paid to be premium.
Now the app is rubish.
I came sailing from England to South Portugal and no one predict was right.now in Sagres windy said south wind and here I have east.
Windy is putting my life in risk -
What mobile app do you use? Android or iOS?
Right now there is a major bug in the Android app. It should be fixed soon. -
I totally agreed whit you!!
-
@thomas-galloni try the new Android version that has been released

@Yves70
The new version from this week will hopefully fix the bug with the wrong data shown at the top of the screen.Besides, there are these very bad changes, that were introduced with v39 (location selection, wind rose at location, layer list, ...). I doubt, that these will be fixed already in the current update.
