Team Windy hasn't slept through the summer either, bringing you another new layer to help prevent fires. We worked with CzechGlobe on the new layer, just as we did on the drought layers earlier.

Why we come up with Fire Danger layer

Canada, Greece, Australia, and many other countries struggle with wildfires on a regular basis. Even though we can't put out fires, we're going into battle with a new layer we call Fire Danger. The layer will help rescue teams but also ordinary people to prevent the risk of fire or its further spread. The layer is currently displayed in the background of this article

It's super useful, simple, and it's free.

What does the new layer do?

Fire Danger is actually two layers, each showing something different. The Fire Spread layer shows the likelihood of a fire spreading based on several metrics, from which a complex model for the whole world is pieced together. The risks are divided into six categories: Very low to Extreme.

The second layer is Fire Ignition, which shows the moisture in the fuel. The lower the moisture in the fuel, the higher the chance of a fire. In layman's terms, if it hasn't rained for a long time and the ground is dry, the risk of a fire is much higher.

Both layers show a 10-day forecast. And while we hope to use them globally, we still want them to be needed as little as possible.

Where to find the new layers in Windy

The new layer is in the main menu as "Fire danger". Remember that as of Windy 39, you can pin your favorite layers to the quick pin menu. Just long tap on any layer in the menu.

Worth considering .. many fires are sadly started deliberately by sick individuals who judge where a fire is most likely to take off and do most damage .. this could be an aid to such people.

@filly14 taking the words out of my mouth. Really! They should reconsider. Most people won't even look at this. So it will not do much to prevent. And consider the damage that could be done. Please windy withdraw this. Now! Eventough well meant. Looks like windy didn't give it an other thought once developed, but instead jumped to proudly show us the possibilities. I can imagine quite a few who will be very happy with this detailed information. For the wrong reasons!
People who would use it for the right reasons don't even need it that bad, because they will be the kind of cautious people that are aware of the dangers, even without such layer in windy and act accordingly. The kind of people that don't know or care, are mostly not going to use windy before strolling in to the woods

Share it with the officials who might have advantage by upgrading the normal prevention and preparedness for possible outbrakes and casualties But don't share it with everybody. Can do more harm than good

@Simoneto-J Yes, there is a certain change in the system, where these new sections include more layers inside.
