How to use widgets on all OS platforms!
-
Here's an overview of the widgets you'll find super helpful when trying to access weather quickly from any gadget - iPhone, iPad, Macbook or Apple Watch!
Home Screen widgets
We also bring one widget that is not complex like Windy but instead simple, clear, and handy at any time. We think it is best suited for Home Screen or StandBy mode
Widgets for StandBy mode on iPhone
Do you check the weather before bed? Or do you like to keep track of your desk during the day? Weather and clock is the perfect combination you want to have on the new StandBy mode that Apple has introduced. If you're an ultra Windy fan, you can get two Windy widgets at once.
Weather Radar on Smart Stack
The new widget placement didn't surprise us. We're ready. You'll be able to add the forecast and even weather radar to your new Smart Stack!
Lock Screen widgets
Lock-screen widgets have become extremely popular. They are useful yet visually non-distracting. Now, you can have them on the iPad, iPhone and Apple Watch.
Pro tip: You can customize each widget to your liking. Long-tap into the settings where you can change the location, model, day range, zoom level, or visual style. Tweak the widgets to suit you.
Go Premium for more details and satellite imagery
We always go the extra mile for Premium users who support us. Windy Premium users will get 7 extra widgets for their iOS device menu. Go Windy Premium and enjoy all the benefits.

@David-Polášek
While for Android which is the most used mobile OS in the world and has a standby mode since version 4?

Super appreciate the widgets. Please consider branding them as in the example from your post, minimally and consistently. Just the Windy icon. No premium crowns or also adding Windy.com with the icon. We are already users. You upsell Premium in the picker which is great, but not in the widget itself.

Hi,
When I try to add the Windy widget to my iPhone 14 running iOS 17, I get "We are sorry we don't support this type of widget. Please install the widget for iOS 14.". Please advice how to solve this. I already rebooted my iPhone and reinstalled the app and that didn't work.
Thanks, Wouter

@wvreeven
Have you updated to the latest version of Windy on iOS? It's 39.3.3. you can check your version in the menu. -
@David-Polášek Yes I did. See the screenshot:
-
@David-Polášek OK I figured it out. There are two ways of adding a Widget. The first one is by clicking Customize and then select the Windy widget. That one leads to the message I posted about. Clicking the + symbol to the upper left leads to a search box that allows you to add a widget as well. That way it works.
Maybe add instructions for how to add the correct widget? I don't use widgets often and I didn't notice that + symbol at first.

We take a look at Android placements, too. On the other hand, Android has Windy webcam widgets that are not yet technically possible with Apple. Each platform has its own. #nohate

Hi, I've updated Windy to 39.3.3 on iPadOS 17.0. I don't see weather radar as a widget choice; is that only available for iPhone?
Some feedback on the other widgets: except for the day overview, the fonts are too small for me. If I have to find and put on reading glasses it defeats the purpose of the widget...easier to open the app. They look nice, though!
-
@gvoz Can you check if you have any possible updates of Windy on your iPad? Radar widget should be normally available on all devices.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera , no updates pending. And I am logged in on the Windy app.
I'm seeing the following widgets:
Premium Forecast
Forecast
Premium Hour Forecast
Hour Forecast
Day Overview -
@gvoz Can you try to reinstall Windy and let us know?
-
@Ondřej-Šutera , thanks for guidance.
- Deleted app + data
- Reinstalled, confirming v39.3.3
- Logged in
No change, same widget offerings as above.
I noted one item in the app error console:
{ "errorID": "error-rendering-item", "timestamp": 1695415152216, "runningMs": 164775, "type": "user", "module": "favsLine", "msg": "Error rendering item", "line": null, "col": null, "url": "capacitor://localhost#/favs?2023092221,37.788,-122.476,5", "script": null, "ver": "39.3.3", "target": "mobile", "stack": false, "platform": "ios", "error": " {}", "isOnline": true, "size": "834x1112", "latestBcast": "bcast: rqstOpen favs (171ms ago at 1695415152045) store: unresolvedErrors (135ms ago at 1695415152081) bcast: log promo/notificationPromo (83ms ago at 1695415152133) bcast: pluginOpened gestures (77ms ago at 1695415152139) bcast: pluginOpened favs (65ms ago at 1695415152151)" }

@gvoz This number of widgets is correct, if we talk about lockscreen widgets in vertical position of iPad, if you want to get more of new ones, please try to change the position to horizontal.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera , I am asking specifically about weather radar widget. It looks like I misunderstood the OP. Maybe the wording is a little confusing?
We also bring one widget that is not complex like Windy but instead simple, clear, and handy at any time. We think it is best suited for Home Screen or StandBy mode
The image underneath that caption shows both the day overview and the weather radar widgets. I paid more attention to the "best suited for Home Screen" and did not correctly infer from the image that the weather radar widget is only available as a home screen widget and not as a lock screen widget...particularly since the day overview widget is available for lock screen.
-
@gvoz Hi, you can add the radar widget, but not on the Lock Screen of your iPad. Radar widget is available as a standard widget than can be inserted on your home pages (standard menu with icons)
-
@David-Polášek I have the latest version of Windy but I still get the same error message about ios 14
-
@lobo-solitario-4 Can you share the error message with us?
