Windy brings a real-time global lightning strikes tracking
-
@EzeStorm @zDavzBR We are aware of certain locations that are still in progress and the southern part of South America is one of them, unfortunately.
@inAjet Thank you for letting us know. You are right that necessary reinstall shouldn't be required, however, I am glad it is solved for you. Can you please let us know, if you meet any other issue? We have been monitoring the whole situation.

As already mentioned, I love the addition of the lightning data to the satellite layer. This is a powerful tool to further analyze the intensity of weather displayed by the radar and/or satellite imagery.
Would you consider adding the ability to control the lightning layer separately from the radar/satellite layer? There may be times when you want to de-clutter the display and view radar/satellite data only, or view lightning data only to quickly locate the most active weather.
Thank you for all your hard work to make this the most capable mobile weather platform on the market!!!

Thanks for bringing this feature now, I was waiting for this for a long time...
But as others have already pointed out, South of Brazil does not have any lightning...
Hope you can fix it soon, thanks.Lightning map

@EzeStorm The way I see it, the lightning layer works in northern South America and the Americas, Western Europe, a little bit of Asia, and maybe Australia. It works in the Caribbean Sea, parts of the Atlantic and East Pacific. Yes, it doesn't work in much of the Southern Hemisphere. Now tonight, I notice the lightning layer has stopped working completely at this time. Recently it wasn't working and it turned out they got rid of the old lightning service and put in the nowcast service, which WAS working fine. Why wouldn't it work NOW?
-
@weatherfan Hi, do you have any issue with new layers right now? We are aware that certain parts of the World are missing, but we communicate this with the source and it should get better soon.
-
@weatherfan Update: The lightning layer is back to working normally.
-
yea non the less it brings a great chemtrail viewer also!!

I'm done with this website. Windy was a big fan of mine from 2017 to 2018. The Windy premium watermark is now very apparent on the map. It's no longer about the weather, but about money. I found Zoom Earth to be the next best thing for my weather needs.

Coverage? It's global!
still not working in BRASIL
-
I'm confused; I've had this feature on the free version for years (UK)
One thing I wonder though; I used to see rings propagating out to approximate where the thunder from a strike would be heard... I'm not seeing those any more.
Do I need to select something?
-
@koeio We are aware that the coverage in South America is worse at this moment, the coverage will improve in upcoming months.
-
@stonelaughter Lightnings are standardly in the free version and also circle animation was used again in version 40. At this moment version 40 is only in our web app and mobile apps will get it in a few weeks hopefully.

I also previously saw lightning on the map prior to this announcement and don't understand what's changed (even with the answer above).

@Nrbelex We changed the provider of data for this feature, since we consider Nowcast as a leader of the industry.

Got it—thanks!

@Korina
Please consider adding the ability to customize the lightning colour. White lightning on white (satellite) background is not very distinct. -
@Gkikas-LGPZ Thank you for your suggestion, you are right that certain situations are less visible than others, especially in the satellite layer. I will forward this to colleagues for consideration.

Any thoughts on this, @Ondřej-Šutera?
-
@inAjet Unfortunately, it is not in plans now.
