Resolving Issues with Android Widgets: A Step-by-Step Guide

WIDGET ISSUES with described steps
If you have issues with some of the Android widgets, please follow the steps below.
Android 14, 13, 12 application settings:
- Long tap on Windy icon and tap on App info button:
Windy application settings should be opened:
- Tap on Notifications settings and allow notifications:
- Go back to application settings and open location permission settings. Set location access to Allow all the time option:
- Go back to application settings and open App battery usage settings. Set battery usage to Unrestricted:
Android 11, 10 application settings:
Android 11, 10 notification and location permission steps are similar to Android 12, 13 and 14.
To set correct battery settings click on Battery in Windy application settings:
Tap on Battery optimization:
If Windy is not listed click on Not optimized and select All apps from the dropdown menu. Select Windy, in the dialog click on Don't optimize option and hit Done:
Android 9, 8, 7 application settings:
Android 9, 8, 7 Location settings does not have All the time option. Allow application to use device's location. In this case the application is allowed to use your location when widget refresh is triggered, no extra step is needed.
Other battery optimization settings
Various devices may have different battery auto optimization settings. These settings could remove background processes. This may cause troubles while widgets are trying to refresh.

None of these things work for me, and none of these steps were necessary in previous iterations of your app, so could you just roll out a fix that undoes whatever it is that you did with the last few updates that broke the widgets? Thanks.

None of these work for me either. I used to rely on the widgets and it has now been several months since they don't work. Please can we have a proper resolution soon

@David-Cooke @s4acre What device do you use? Our widgets were completely rebuilt a few months ago and they are sensitive according to all optimalization apps in Android devices. Can you please check that on your end? Some devices have their own apps in the background in settings that affect the behavior.

Olá boa tarde, hoje fiz uma atualização do windi estava a espera que ficassen resolvidos os problemas dos widgets mas não, continuo a não ver nada fica a preto, mas julgo que sei o que aconteceu, foi depois de fazer a actualização do Android para a versão do miui 14.6, não só deixei de poder ter os widgets do windi como noutro software de meteo a localização deixou de funcionar corretamente julgo que poderá ser esse o problema, porque fiz tudo o que vocês dizem para fazer em relação aos widgets do windi e ficam sempre a preto

@Filipe-Cardoso boa noite, antes da atualização para o miui 14.08 os widgets funcionavam sem problema nenhum, foi depois da actualização que deixaram de funcionar

Hello your solutions still do not work, updating widgets does not work with the proposed solutions. When will there be an update? My phone is a Google pixel 7 with Android 14.

@Cthuulhuu @Filipe-Cardoso Could you please try to delete widgets, then clear data and cache in Settings --> Apps --> Windy --> Storage? However, this can change a bit with different devices. Then please add widgets back again and let me know if this helps or not.

Hello I still have a problem updating widgets. Every time I restart my smartphone the widgets bug, and I have to delete the widgets and clean the memory and cache. I have a pixel 7 with Android 14

I have a pixel 8 pro on Android 14 and have similar issues with the widgets. I think the recent update to the Nov security patch may have broken something. At least that seems to be around the time my windy widgets quit working.Edit: I just added my widgets and they are working normally at the moment. Hopefully this will stick.
