Resolving Issues with Android Widgets: A Step-by-Step Guide

@Cthuulhuu Which version do you have installed?
-
@Cthuulhuu @Filipe-Cardoso Could you please try to delete widgets, then clear data and cache in Settings --> Apps --> Windy --> Storage? However, this can change a bit with different devices. Then please add widgets back again and let me know if this helps or not.

@Ondřej-Šutera thank you, it's ok for me, when i reset data and cach the application work normaly 👍

Hello I still have a problem updating widgets. Every time I restart my smartphone the widgets bug, and I have to delete the widgets and clean the memory and cache. I have a pixel 7 with Android 14

@Cthuulhuu
I have a pixel 8 pro on Android 14 and have similar issues with the widgets. I think the recent update to the Nov security patch may have broken something. At least that seems to be around the time my windy widgets quit working.Edit: I just added my widgets and they are working normally at the moment. Hopefully this will stick.

S23 widget not workin did everthing...

@Tom-Bartol Can you please check this article? Did you provide all permissions to Windy widgets?

This issue is still happening. You can clear app data and it will work for a random set of time and then break again you then have to delete app data again to fix... this repeats forever.

@Kurisu112 Hi, which Android device and version of Android do you use?

Windy app draining battery. 20% of today's usage according to phone diagnostics. All settings are correct as per this article. Is there a fix?

Samsung s20FEI'm experiencing the same issues for a several days on Samsung M54. Widget had been working well for months after later year issues (all permission on the article were given, etc.). I've noticed the widget stops updading (red circle running forever), and battery drain increases quite a lot, with Windy appearing as top app using battery. The background usage for Windy on the last day alone was of 7 hours. Overnight, with the screen off, the phone is kept awake around 40% of the time, while the normal percentage used to be around 10-15%. I've tried cleaning cache and app data already.
Thanks.
Edit: I've uninstalled Windy hours ago and it completely fixed the battery drain (measured with AccuBattery app).

@marcorotta
I haven't seen the battery drain issue on my main phone (pixel 8 pro) nor my backup phone (OnePlus 8 pro), but the unreliable widgets on both phones are driving me nuts. The p8p is on Android 14 and the op8p is on Android 13. Right now the widgets on my p8p aren't working but they are working on my op8p. 🤷♂️I see a couple different failure patterns. In one, the widgets are unresponsive and the 3 dot menu doesn't work. When this scenario happens, you can't even bring up the app by touching the widget. Another telltale sign of the issue is a persistent windy updating notice in the notification bar that won't clear unless I force stop the app.
In another failure pattern, the widget 3 dot menu brings up settings and refresh buttons but they don't respond. Some minutes later they may respond.
I have yet to establish a method that reliably fixes the widgets. Regardless how the widgets are working, I can always bring up the app and it works fine. But the widgets remain unreliable.
When the widgets work, they're great. But when they don't, it's frustrating.
I've tried logging out, force stopping the app, clearing cache and data, and uninstalling , rebooting, and reinstalling the app. Eventually I get the widgets working again but it's a pita to have to troubleshoot so often.

I've experienced this exact same behavior. Sometimes, removing the widget and adding it back fixed the issue for some time.
Regarding battery drain, I might have used the wrong word. It's more like an abnormal heavy usage, making windy appear as the top app for that in Samsung's battery configs. I can confirm that after uninstalling windy yesterday, battery is lasting much longer. Probably 20-30% more.
Regards.

@speedlever yes
-
@marcorotta: Same for me. The process 'windywidget' keeps Android from going to deep sleep nearly all the time.
-
@Suty sorry for the late reply I had to uninstall the app due to the heavy battery drain from it breaking so gave up on it abit... but I would love for it to be fixed.
Device: Samsung Fold 5
Android Version: 14I have the app set to unrestricted battery usage.
Notifications all turned on.
All location permissions on.
I even disabled Android Doze using ADB.So it's nothing that the phone/OS is causing its 100% an issue with the app.
When the app issue happens it also heavily drains the phone battery.
Let me know if you need anything else.

@Kurisu112 Thank you for additional info. Our colleagues already work on the fix of these issues with widgets from the last days.
