Explanation of the colors in satellite mode
-
Can someone explain me, what the colors mean in the Satellite setting in Infra+ mode? Can I conclude, that given the color is, per example, dark red, it also raining? Or I`m completely wrong?
Thanks a lot -
@Danis2201
Infra+ or enhanced infrared is useful in determining how high clouds are. We know that temperature normally decreases with height as you go up in the atmosphere so that would imply the colder the cloud, the higher it is. So we can use this type of imagery in conjunction with the visible band to identify different cloud types and what levels in the atmosphere they are.This doesn't necessarily mean you have precipitation reaching the ground. Radar, an automatic weather station or human observation is the best way to KNOW if you have precipitation reaching the ground.
That being said...you've got lots of clouds at many different levels all the way up to dark red...it's probably a stormy day lol
Hope that helps!

Further to @Wheats’s post, find additional information from @setvak :

Note the temperature is expressed in Kelvin (K) and the colour scale is from blue (warmer) to red (colder).
