Fire Intensity Map missing
-
For the past few days, the Fire Intensity Maps have been missing from the available and displayed selections. Is this permenant or will they be returned? I would vote for returning them.

@rvanee Hi, I am not sure what exactly do you mean. We still offer section Fire danger, where two layers are provided (Fire spread and Fuel moisture).
Then we have new source for active fire data, so you can check this one in Windy.com as well. If you have any questions according to these, please let me know.

@rvanee I am sorry for confusing answer, we used to have this layer called Fire intensity, but it is replaced by Active fires from NASA FIRMS and you can find it here:
Mobile apps will get this new feature in a few weeks.

Thank you! I'm happy that the information is still available.

@Ondřej-Šutera Thank you! I was looking for the fire intensity map myself and wondering what had happened to it. This is very helpful. Really grateful for Windy.com.

I was confused by this also. But I found that if you use the picker over the fire point it gives some value but in MW? I'm confused as the info box says it is W/m^2 ![alt text](image url)

@auweatherwatcher You are right, this can be a bit confusing. I forwarded this to colleague who is responsible for this and he will fix it.
However, to provide an explanation to you, the value is called Fire Radiative Power - FRP and it depicts the pixel-integrated fire radiative power in MW (megawatts).

@Ondřej-Šutera That you for this clarification. Also is there an indication when the data was last updated like previously?
edit: found it Provisional Geostationary Active Fire Detections AHI (Himawari-8)3 CAMS/IPMA 2km sub-satellite2 ~30 mins (Australia-Asia)
scrolled down this page https://www.earthdata.nasa.gov/faq/firms-faq
This seems consistent with reports of an out of control fire near Cessnock NSW
