Windy weather radar not working
-
@speedlever Did you re-add them after the reinstall? According to issues with widgets, please check this article.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera
Yes, I readded the widgets. Just blank where the widgets are located. I rebooted my phone and no change. I have a persistent notification the widgets are updating and each widget has a spinning circle in the top left corner of the widget but they remain blank. -
@speedlever Please check this article, which describes how certain SW in OnePlus devices can affect the behavior of the app.

Oos13 looks a bit different than those instructions. But I have optimization disabled, locked the app in recents, enabled notifications, etc.I rebooted the phone again and now full screen is working but the widgets remain blank. I've had this phone for 3.5 years. I even factory reset after the upgrade to oos13. It seems only recently I've been having issues with windy. I'm not sure what's changed. I run blokada but it makes no difference if blokada is enabled or disabled.
This phone has been excellent but is nearing EOL and I'll be replacing it in the next few months. Maybe sooner once I decide what I want. If OnePlus oos has become problematic as regards app usage, I may have to drop them from consideration which leaves me with a choice between pixel 8 pro and the iPhone 15pm. Not a Samsung fan. I was wanting to hold off until the OnePlus 12 is released for consideration but now I'm not sure I want to do that.

@speedlever In general, there is a problem with Android market, since every brand and SW installed with Android is a bit different and we have some issues with optimization for all devices. According to Windy, we can generally recommend iOS devices.
-
@speedlever According to radar issue, it would help us if you let us know you are able to replicate it.
-
Currently, none of the widgets work. Touching them won't launch the full screen version either. If I launch the app, all of the displayed layers work fine in full screen.
This is unusual behavior in my experience. Windy used to run fine on my 8 pro. I'm not sure what changed.
Touching the 3 dot menu in the top right corner of the widget no longer brings up the refresh option. It brings up the configure\resize\remove\etc option.

I deleted the app, rebooted my phone, installed the app again. I can start the app and radar weather works fine. However, I cannot get any of the widgets to work.I've disabled battery optimization for windy, enabled background activity, enabled notifications, and there are no known restrictions on windy. What used to work fine (Windy widgets) will not work for some reason I haven't been able to determine.
I think I'm about to move to pixel. Hopefully I'll have better luck on the pixel 8 pro. 🤷♂️

@Ondřej-Šutera
Tonight, everything including widgets are working normally. 🤦♂️ -
@speedlever Did you do any changes in settings of your device or anywhere else?
-
@Ondřej-Šutera
Not that I'm aware of. Today I'm back to the radar weather widget working but when I tap it and go full screen, it shows the map but no radar info and the play button does nothing. Really strange.My pixel 8 pro came in yesterday but I don't have it fully set up yet so I don't know if that will change anything or not yet.
-
@speedlever When the radar map is blank (grey) without any data, can you please check the error console in Windy? You can find it in menu of app.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera
Sorry, just noticed your reply. The app has been up and down and the widgets have also been up and down.I deleted all the widgets since they're presently not working. I saw your message so I created a new radar weather widget. Just a black area with the windy logo on the top left corner, 3 dots in the top right corner, and a play button in the lower left corner.
The error console says no errors. Go figure.
So I've quit using Windy on my OnePlus 8 pro for now. I don't have the pixel 8 pro running yet so not sure how windy works on that yet.
-
@Ondřej-Šutera
Now the widget is displaying a message saying "cannot load your location". -
@Ondřej-Šutera
The app and widgets appear to be working normally on the Pixel 8 pro. I have no idea what might have changed on the OnePlus 8 pro for the app and widgets to become unreliable. I've been using them without issue for a long time. 🤷♂️ -
@speedlever Okay, so the new device is okay now? It is possible that, when we changed the code in widgets, OnePlus has installed certain optimization SW which can affect these issues.
Pixel 8 pro is from Google so there is only "pure" Android software without any other SW.

@Ondřej-Šutera
Sorry to report that my initial impression turned out to be false. After my first full day with the pixel 8 pro on A14, none of the widgets work.The radar widget is now blank. I recreated it after noticing it was stuck on the day earlier. The daily and weekly widgets initially worked but didn't update. When I brought up the refresh button from the 3 dot menu, it wouldn't refresh and the refresh option persisted.
When I touch the 3 dot button on the radar widget, it brings the app up on full screen. No refresh button.
So my results with the pixel 8 pro on Android 14 are very similar to what I was seeing in recent weeks on my OnePlus 8 pro on oos13.1.
In addition, the battery on the pixel 8 pro is reporting windy as consuming 26% of the battery usage.
I have removed all windy widgets for
the time being. -
@speedlever Could you please try to clear data and cache in Windy.com app and try to add widgets again?
-
Ok. Standby.
-
After deleting the cache and data on the pixel, I recreated the widgets. I also had to go back in and change my defaults, as expected.
There is a bug with the weather radar in the standard 2x2 configuration. The refresh and other buttons brought up by the 3 dot menu are unreadable narrow strips. Not sure they're clickable.
Right now the 3 widgets I created seem to be working normally. Let me give them a little bit and see if they continue to function normally.
Edit: I tried the same thing on the one plus 8 pro and the weather radar widget doesn't show an image. Touching the 3 dot menu brings up the app in full screen and shows the normal radar image. But the widget itself doesn't show anything other than the windy logo on the top left corner, the 3 dot menu in the top right corner, and the play button in the lower left corner. There's also a notification that the widget is being updated but that persists with no change.
