Windy weather radar not working
-
@speedlever Okay, so the new device is okay now? It is possible that, when we changed the code in widgets, OnePlus has installed certain optimization SW which can affect these issues.
Pixel 8 pro is from Google so there is only "pure" Android software without any other SW.

@Ondřej-Šutera
Sorry to report that my initial impression turned out to be false. After my first full day with the pixel 8 pro on A14, none of the widgets work.The radar widget is now blank. I recreated it after noticing it was stuck on the day earlier. The daily and weekly widgets initially worked but didn't update. When I brought up the refresh button from the 3 dot menu, it wouldn't refresh and the refresh option persisted.
When I touch the 3 dot button on the radar widget, it brings the app up on full screen. No refresh button.
So my results with the pixel 8 pro on Android 14 are very similar to what I was seeing in recent weeks on my OnePlus 8 pro on oos13.1.
In addition, the battery on the pixel 8 pro is reporting windy as consuming 26% of the battery usage.
I have removed all windy widgets for
the time being. -
@speedlever Could you please try to clear data and cache in Windy.com app and try to add widgets again?
-
Ok. Standby.

After deleting the cache and data on the pixel, I recreated the widgets. I also had to go back in and change my defaults, as expected.
There is a bug with the weather radar in the standard 2x2 configuration. The refresh and other buttons brought up by the 3 dot menu are unreadable narrow strips. Not sure they're clickable.
Right now the 3 widgets I created seem to be working normally. Let me give them a little bit and see if they continue to function normally.
Edit: I tried the same thing on the one plus 8 pro and the weather radar widget doesn't show an image. Touching the 3 dot menu brings up the app in full screen and shows the normal radar image. But the widget itself doesn't show anything other than the windy logo on the top left corner, the 3 dot menu in the top right corner, and the play button in the lower left corner. There's also a notification that the widget is being updated but that persists with no change.

Several hours later all 3 widgets are running normally. 🤷♂️ -
@speedlever
A day later and all is running fine on the pixel 8 pro. -
@Ondřej-Šutera
After several days of flawless operation, none of the widgets are working. I deleted cache and data and recreated the widgets but no luck.The only change I can think of to the pixel 8 pro was an update to the latest security patch (Nov).

@speedlever Hi. Thanks for the feedback. We are currently fixing some bugs related to Android 14 which might help resolve the situation. Thank you for your patience.

@MarkNagy
Ok thanks. Just as an update, my notification bar says the widgets have been updating for 7 hours. I don't currently have any windy widgets running. The app itself seems to run fine. -
@speedlever It seems like it stuck when it was trying to get your location. Is it possible that notifications or location access were disabled while you were setting up widgets? I can see some crash logs indicating these scenarios on multiple devices.

@MarkNagy
Not that I'm aware of. When I create the widget, it always asks for whatever permissions it needs.I just tried creating a new widget and still get just a blank image with the play button, the windy logo, and the 3 dot menu. Touching any of them just brings up the app which runs normally, but none of the widgets show anything.
Since creating the new widget, I now have a persistent notification that windy is updating the widget. But nothing happens. I can delete the widget but the notification remains. I'll have to reboot the phone to clear that notification.

@MarkNagy
I have no windy widgets running. I rebooted my phone to clear any sticky notifications. After restarting my phone, at some point I'm now getting a sticky notification (which I can't clear) that windy is updating widget.I'll clear data and cache and reboot to see if that changes anything. But I suspect that just cranking up the app to input my preferences will be enough to jump start the widget update process even though I currently have no windy widgets created.
