GPS position, route editing, ice floes
-
Dear Windy. I am Captain on expedition cruise ships sailing on the most challenging environments of arctic and antarctic. I would like to see on nesr future the bellow:
- Option to track my vessel using the GPS position of my mobile and not using the IP address (which in my situation can be thousands of miles). It's extremely difficult with my laptop to position my vessel on the weather chart and almost impossible on mobile app
- I would like to see a route editor based on Lat, Long and proposals for optimum routes. That will open the doors of more professional approach to shipping companies who are paying thousands per month to other less accurate platforms
- I would like to see some layers of ice condition. Expedition cruising is rising significantly and that will add value to your business.
I am available for assistance and similar proposals
You have made my life easier and safer!

Hi Cpt'n,
Here are some personal thoughts about your suggestions:

You should be able to visualize your position both on your laptop (if fitted with GPS) and in your mobile. See this related post:

The Distance & planning tool allows you to plot a route showing the coordinates of the way points (right click on your mouse).
Then if you choose Boat, set and turn ON your average speed and select North up in More option, you get the weather conditions along the passage. But it is not an optimized route automatically plotted by Windy according weather conditions.
Shown here w/ my customized wind color scale.- If you look at Waves layer from ECMWF, the grey areas with no waves between the waves and the land are the sea-ice. But at high zoom leveI I don't know what is the degree of reliability for navigation
