Topographical effects of wind in Premium?
-
I sail on a lake, and Windy is great for telling me the wind speed and direction in the middle of the lake. But once I get near the shores, the topography changes the wind speed and direction up to 30 degrees (or more?) and the wind speed can fluctuate a bit depending on if the wind is being funneled between two islands with tall trees.
Will Premium give me those nuances around the shores?

@marktrav
See “More detailed forecast maps” in
https://community.windy.com/topic/23730/be-one-step-ahead-with-the-advanced-features-of-windy-premium-en?_=1697804811584But it depends where this lake is located. If a high resolution model (1 to 2km resolution) is available in this area, the map for the wind could be improved. But with the default weather model (9 km) or other medium resolution models, I doubt you get a more detailed wind map.
Could you show a screenshot of this lake with the current wind forecast ?

Lake Lanier, Georgia, USA just north of Atlanta, Georgia.
The wind gets real squirrelly around “Three Sisters” and “Lights Ferry” islands coming from the leeward side.

Thank you. So here are 2 screenshots, using the HRRR model which provides the highest resolution for USA in Windy. They are without and with Premium. I do not see any difference in speed or in direction of the wind.
The grid of the model (3 km distance between the grid points) is not fine enough to take into account all topographic details.
See a theoretical plot of the HRRR grid made with the Distance & planning tool. In addition to the horizontal grid, the topography model of the weather model is even coarser.But Premium has many other advantages.
