      Living in a forested, wildfire prone area, makes it imperative to be on top of any developing situation.
      How soon does Windy perceive and acknowledge a fire? From what data?
      How soon would it show up in the active fire layer? How rapidly would perimeters be updated?
      IMO local civil defense communications to the public are totally inadequate.

        @katica-1
        Found this when I clicked on the info button with "Active fires" layer selected.

        Active fires
        Active fires data are provided by NASA FIRMS (Fire Information for Resource Management System) (https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/) The presented value is the pixel-integrated fire radiative power in W/m². For more information about how the data is collected, see FAQ page at NASA (https://www.earthdata.nasa.gov/faq/firms-faq)

        If your local civil defense communications to the public are totally inadequate then you should 100% take that up with them - as it is important and time sensitive information for public safety.

          @Wheats hi do you or anyone else know if this just a reimplementation of the ir ffire layer which seems to have disappeared in the last couple of weeks?

            @mattiger not sure what you mean by the ir ffire layer...they replaced the old "Active Fires" data source.
            If I remember right, the old layer used Copernicus I think? I could be wrong. Either way, now the active fire layer data source is FIRMS. They filter based on confidence levels as far as I know.

              Hi @mattiger, @Wheats is completely right, we replaced the old layer with new Active fires with source of NASA FIRMS data.
