IOS app Continually Switches to Metric

The app for apple iOS has on several occasions switched without my knowledge or participation to metric readings. I am then required to manually switch them back to standard (US). This is becoming annoying.

There are at least 2 cases where you cannot use the imperial units. It is the visibility expressed in kilometres and the altitude on the base map in meters.
In which particular case did you get this switch ?
