Widgets aren't working on A14
-
I continue to have trouble with windy widgets on my pixel 8 pro on A14. Widgets will work fine for a while, then stop updating.
The app itself seems to work fine. But I notice the issue when I see a persistent notification that windy is updating.
I've tried wiping cache and data of the windy app, then uninstalling the app and rebooting my phone. Then doing a fresh install. I can create the widgets again and they look normal for a while, and then they stop updating. The time on the radar widget doesn't update and none of the manual refresh options work.
As far as I can tell, all permissions are granted and no battery optimization is used on the app.
Not sure where to go from here.

@speedlever Hi. Thanks for the report. I can see some crash logs related to your device (which may cause this issue), however we are not able to replicate this issue. We are planning to release crash fixes in the following updates but I cannot assure you that these changes will fix your issue. Thank you for your patience.

@MarkNagy
Thanks for the reply. I currently have no widgets running but still have a persistent notification that the windy widget is updating and I can't clear it.Edit: when I uninstall the app, the persistent notification goes away.
Do you have any timeline for a potential fix? And is this an Android 14 issue?
-
@speedlever You can force stop the application to remove the notification. Unfortunately I am not able to determine any timeline for the potential fix until we are not able to replicate the issue. This issue seems to occur mainly on AN14.

@MarkNagy
Ok thanks. As a point of reference, I cranked up my op8p running oos13.1 and windy widgets appear to be running fine on that phone. 🤷♂️ -
Hi, I'm also having issues with the widgets on Pixel 8. Can't even set them up, the settings screen is unresponsive and then just crashes.
Let me know if I can help solving it. -
@Nicolas-LE-BAS Hi. Thanks for the report. Can you try the following, please:
- Long press on Windy icon
- Go to app settings
- Grant location permissions
- Grant notification permissions
- Allow unrestricted battery usage
After these steps go to widget settings and check if the issue persists.
Thank you.

@MarkNagy windy has full permissions and unrestricted battery access already. The app itself works as expected.
Just to be clear this is the screen I'm stuck with.
I can change brightness and text size, but I can't click anything else, including the button 'Add Widget'. After about 15 secs I'm forcibly returned to home screen, which I assume is some form of crash. -
@MarkNagy I've got the android logs available if that helps

@MarkNagy Solved it!
At some point I started receiving error notifications about a nonexistent windy widget.
I cleared windy data and uninstalled/reinstalled it. It works now.
Thanks for helping!
