      How is it that the wind gusts from the GFS weather model are sometimes less than the average wind speed?

        @Mary_G
        This is bit weird indeed. Wind gusts data is provided in m/s by the model, and then transformed to kt or other wind speed units as chosen by the user, but I don’t see why it would explain why gusts in knots could be lower than the averaged wind.

          @idefix37 @Mary_G Is there anything necessary to replicate the issue? I tested some locations and I am not able to find this bug.

            @Ondřej-Šutera

            I tried again to verify this reported issue.
            I found a similar case right now at point forecast in Cros, a village in France. The layer is that of Wind gusts by GFS 06Z.

              @idefix37 Thank you for the hint. I already found the issue and forwarded this to colleagues for the fix.

                Hello @idefix37 @Mary_G, after a discussion with colleagues and contacting NOAA as a provider of models, that have this issue, we decide to keep it, since they compute wind gusts this way.

                  @Ondřej-Šutera
                  Thanks, did they say why the gusts would be lower than the wind? It is like that for almost every hour today here at karioitahi Beach in Auckland new zealand

                    @hidicker Unfortunately, we don't have any specific computation as a reson from them to share.
