API Trial suitable for home use?
-
I'm a Windy Premium user, and at home I run Home Assistant for home automation and dashboards. I'm interested in integrating weather forecasting from a trusted source into my Home Assistant. My local government agency (Australia's Bureau of Meteorology) is outright hostile to any automated API access and/or screen scraping, so I'm looking at Windy as an alternative.
Obviously, a Professional API key is overkill for such a use-case, not to mention prohibitively expensive for home use. The only other option is a Trial key, which is free but returns deliberately inaccurate data. My questions therefore are:
- Is the degree of modification of Trial data minimal enough that it's still usable for a home user? If I'm mostly just interested in forecasts, it doesn't have to be 100% accurate.
- Will Windy ever introduce a Basic or Home tier for a small cost, that permits say 10 or 20 requests per day of accurate data (compared to the 500 requests per day of a Trial key, which is more suited to development where you're repeatedly testing)?
- If so, would Windy offer this tier for free to Premium users who are already paying them?
Thanks

@TerrorBite Hi, our trial version of API is rather for testing purposes for potential customers of the Professional license.
According to the Home version of API, we are not planning this now. However, I could consider with colleagues from the product team.

@Suty I would also love this for the exact same use case. I'm a premium user and really only care about the weather at my home's exact address (so I can automate with things like "when it's expected to rain"), so perhaps this would be another limitation that we'd be fine with as a differentiator to the professional API.

Hello Windy,
I'm in the same situration.
I just got a ground-heating system, that I'm integrating into Homeassistant, and I want to add weather forcast data into HA, in order to optimize the heating system.
The data I'm specifically looking for, is wind direction, avg. wind speed, expected gust speeds and expected temperatures.
My current guess is that I need a 48h forecast in order for it to be helpfull.the reason for the wind-direction is that if we have 30m/s from north or east, then it doesn't affect me, heating wise, but if it's from south-west, then we need substancial more heating

Same here, I would be really interested this for a homeassitant integration!
-
@Suty I am also interested and I am premium user

I have the exact same wish - I am a premium user and I would love to integrate Windy weather forecast for my home location.
-
I'm also interested!

+1 for this, would be really nice to have!

Since having Premium I often think that its such a shame that I can not use all the good forecast data in my Home Assistant setup.
I would love to see Windy giving some access to their API for Premium users/Personal-usecases. -
+1 I am a premium subscriber and would love to be able to use the data from windy within home assistant
-
@Suty Would love to have some version of a Home Version API for Premium users. Using Windy in my i3 Statusbar would be awesome.

I'm also a premium user who would love to integrate Windy data directly into my home assistant setup...

I am in the same scenario, I would like to use Windy forecast data for Home Assistant automations. I’m also a premium user, and contribute data from my home weather station up to Windy. It would even be perfect if Windy would give weather station contributors API, premium or Professional access in return for weather data…
-
I would even pay a small fee for this, cause I know maintaining an api costs money. But on the other hand it won’t be much more expensive compared to people refreshing the website a lot of times during the day.
And a discount or even free for people sharing their own weather station date would be fair.
I live in a remote location and I’m planning to buy a weather station and calibrated outdoor air quality sensors. -
Is this enough interest to poke someone to make a Home edition ;)

Throwing my vote in for a small volume, personal use API plan for Home Assistant or other home automation projects!

Also interested. Would love to be able to charge my batteries at night (for cheap) ahead of a cloudy day.
