Icing Severity awesome!! Plans for iOS??
-
"Icing Severity" with altitude slider is amazing on the desktop.
It's taken my flight planning to a whole new level.
Is this a new feature??!!
I don't see this layer on my iPhone or iPad where I do a majority of my "on the go" planning.
Are there plan for the iOS????Thank you.

@saintgarrett Hi, yes, we are planning to implement these layers in mobile apps as well. I think it could be available at the end of the January.

The Icing layer is currently categorized in the Wind category, which is clearly wrong. May I suggest to put it under "Temperature", where Freezing level can be found also?

Excellent to see the icing severity layer appear for GFS and ECMWF. It's a positive for flight safety.
Can you please explain (or point to documentation on)
(a) the interpretation of the percentage displayed
(b) where it comes from and how it is calculated?e.g. is it based on NOAA's CIP/FIP, the DWD's ADWICE or something completely different?
(I'm not looking for a general explanation of airframe icing, just the specifics on the layer displayed please.)

@JulianScarfe
Have you clicked the "info" button and read what it has to say?
Hopefully that's helpful!

Thank you @Wheats
I'm afraid I didn't, because I didn't know the Info button exists. I was using the App, and also Chrome on an IOS device, neither of which show the info button in that location. Am I missing it?
Looking at it using a browser on a desktop machine, the info is indeed just what I was looking for. I'll review it in detail.
One immediate question is about who is calculating the icing potential. The text in the Info box is exactly the same for the GFS and ECMWF models, and talks about "our icing product", which seems rather odd. Is this layer an output from the model itself, or is it calculated by Windy based on other output variables from the models?

@JulianScarfe
In the mobile app, the same info is provided in the menu, below the model names you find “ About this data” -

That is a good question. Maybe @Suty has some insight into who "our" is referring to exactly. My initial thought is it's Windy taking variables from the models and making calculations based on the references they include in the info panel.

@Wheats As you and @JulianScarfe said, we use output data from these models and our colleagues calculated new data for those layers.
