I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to provide feedback and to express a feature request that would be incredibly beneficial for users like myself.

One of the key data points I find myself in need of is detailed rain accumulation information over a specific time frame. Specifically, I would greatly appreciate if Windy.com could include a feature that shows rain accumulations over the last 72 hours. This addition would not only enhance the usability of your platform but also provide valuable insights for various purposes.

I believe this feature would be of great interest to a wide range of your users who rely on accurate and detailed weather data. The ability to track and analyze rain accumulation over a 72-hour period could serve numerous practical applications, enhancing both the utility and user experience of your service.

Thank you for considering this request. I am looking forward to seeing how Windy.com continues to evolve and meet the needs of its diverse user base.

Best regards,

Hi Idefix, I am voting for this feature for the future. It would be great to have in Windy the historical rain accumulation (lets say 72 hours) to correspond the reality as recorded by a weather station. The data is not available worldwide but it is available for plenty countries. It would be worth considering to add it at least for the countries where is the data available.
Thanks a lot for the considering :)

Hi,
Windy shows an estimate of soil moisture and the forecast of that moisture.

Here is your complete post :

“ I was just hoping to express the same wish. I am a farmer and premium subscriber with some fields as much as 25 miles from others and rainfall variability, even within a mile or two, can be very significant, particularly in high summer where we tend to get much of our rain from isolated thunderstorms that may dump an inch in one place and nothing a mile away. The NWS/NOAA has maps here: https://water.weather.gov/precip/ that I would guess are just based on radar observation rather than actual ground measurements.

The main other historical datapoint that would be useful to me would be observed humidity. This can help me to assess risk of fungal and other crop diseases and possibly allow me to skip fungicide applications in favorable conditions. I have no idea if there are useable data sources for this or even what the best way to represent such data would be....possibly where one could select daily minimum, maximum and mean measurements by day or the average of those measurements over a given time period (average the min, max and mean values over last 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, etc...) Might be a long shot but just thought I'd mention it as well.

I really love your software and it has truly changed my farming life. The ability to view and assess differing predictive models helps me operationally to assess weather risk and timing for crucial operations. The drought information that I've only fairly recently discovered, has also been extremely helpful in marketing my crop, as I can see conditions and 10 day forecasts for my southern hemisphere competitors in near real time, allowing me to better understand commodity markets swings with the weather data that is often driving them with every model refresh rather than relying on weekly updates from prognosticators as before. I applaud your efforts and constantly evangelize for you with my fellow farmers and neighbors. Thank you for all you do. “

Hi,
On what data do you imagine the rainfall accumulation over the last 72 hours would be based?
What Windy shows is the rain forecast by different weather models.
Would you like the past rain accumulation to be based on the forecast 72 hours ago? Probably not.
You would like this accumulation to correspond to reality as recorded by a weather station. But this data is not available everywhere.
