How to turn OFF "forecasted radar?"
-
A few days ago, my Windy started to show a progress bar for "forecasted" radar, following the current radar progression - but the display STARTS with the current time and moves to the "future," and I have to actually click on the beginning of the progress bar to get it to show the radar from 1 hour ago to the current time.
How can I get it to default to START at one hour ago?
-
@caramadra Hello, we are aware of this and decided to change it, so the animation will start in default with historic data, instead of the forecast.
-
And, is there an option in the new radar to show the INFRA+ and BLUE options, not just Visible? These seem to have disappeared?
-
@arnolan You probably mean options in satellite layer. They are still there. Radar layer has always only default layer.
-
Yes of course, sorry!
-
@Suty Hello, as a consequence..I’d like to ask you if it is possible to deselect RADAR FORECAST and return to the previous setting - in Premium version 3 hours of radar history (instead of just 1 hour plus forecast). Thank you!
-
@Martin-Svec Unfortunately, radar forecast can’t be turned off now. However, you can use 6 hours, if only 1h of data is not enough.
-
This forecast is very wrong here in Vietnam with the tropical rainy season, so I would an option to remove it to avoid going until it with my finger when I move manually...
-
@Suty Just to add my 2 cents,
I find the default to forecasted radar very frustrating. -
@trollov Default location on the timeline is on the existing data, so when you play the animation the last hour starts, not the forecast.
-
@Suty Sorry to be returning to this so late, but I (foolishly) never came back to the forum to see your answer - and Windy.com is, for me, still showing the radar STARTING at the FUTURE radar, and not at the past-to-current radar. Is there a way to turn off that future radar completely (on the web) ?
-
@caramadra It is not possible right now, but the fix of the issue with autoswitching to the forecast part will be in one of upcoming updates during the summer.
-
@Suty Oh I cant wait for that update. So frustrating sometime and it is such a great app otherwise.

@Suty I've studied the forecast radar, and satellite. It's obvious that it simply extrapolates the current conditions and movement speed. As we know precipitation, especially thunder showers, morph into areas of greater or lesser intensity, sometimes very quickly and unpredictably. So there's that.
The satellite forecast could be improved if cloud altitudes were taken into account. I've observed where high clouds were moving much faster than low clouds. The forecast satellite seems to extrapolate areas rather than altitudes- causes an inaccuracy. -

This "forecasting" radar was developed just to please people who were crying about not having it because they were convinced that radar is a forecasting tool. Some people ask for 3 hours or 1 day of this extrapolation !
