Total precipitable water
-
The new updates are, as always, great and add a lot of value to Windy. I'm once again asking you to add total precipitable water as one of the parameters offered for display. It's a great way to visualize moisture plumes and whatnot, such as this one later this week where moisture sourced from the Caribbean will be bringing rain to Norway and the United Kingdom.
This sort of thing is critical for severe weather and atmospheric river forecasting and the current humidity and precipitation parameters don't capture it as well as total precipitable water does.

@mark-ingalls
Just saw this post, I totally agree, it would be a valuable and appreciated addition. -
This is a great suggestion. I know it can bring valuable use to windy. This layer can basically use the entire atmospheric column and then imagine if all that air condenses, that would be how much rain it could fall down. This also can be used for determining if it's a tropical rainstorm or a more temperate/wintry storm.

@Weather2004
I definitely agree that this is desperately needed as an option for windy.

@mark-ingalls Stimme zu, wäre eine wertvolle Bereicherung.

@Wettergucker Hi, thank you for the suggestion! We are not planning to add the total precipitable water product at the moment. This moisture indicator can be partially substituted by products such as relative humidity at various atmospheric levels (from the surface up to 150 hPa), as well as cloud cover or precipitation. If you have any further ideas or feedback, please let us know. Thank you, Jari

@Jari-Sochorová These parameters are not satisfactory for viewing the aggregate moisture across the entire column of the atmosphere.
-
@Jari-Sochorová Those layers you named are not observation layers but model layers. Precipitable water is observation layer. @Filip_K

@hangInThere said in Total precipitable water:
Precipitable water is observation layer.
Look at the screenshot in the first post of this topic.

@idefix37 I see. So what Mark Ingalls wants is forecast precipitable water. What I want is real observed precipitable water, a derived product from satellite observation. See https://cw3e.ucsd.edu/satellite/

@hangInThere
Adding both would be great. Water Vapour imagery and Total Precipitable Water forecast parameter. -
@Wheats Hi, we’ll see what we can do about it. I’ll discuss it with my colleagues. Have a nice day, Jari
