been trying to plan a sailing route westerly on the english channel for the last month.
you check ahead, all looks good, so you make plans to sail.
the day arrives however and the forecast was wrong.i first planned on the 7th march, cancelled
planned on the 24th march, cancelled
planned for tomorrow 29th march, already cancelled, weather is totally opposite what was predicted as little as 3 days agotomorrow was predicted to be 10-20mph westerly winds, relatively calm, as few as 3 days ago.
actuality of reality is n.easterly 30-40mph winds -
@fowey-guy Weather forecasting is never 100% accurate, it is more of an educated guess because, in essence, you are trying to predict the future. That being said, it is worth experimenting with different weather models or forecasts because each one handles a specific region differently. One might perform better in a location than others.

@TheRadarGuy well this is just it really isnt it?
if i predicted the weather myself i would probably be as accurate.
who needs an app to play guessing games??
-
@fowey-guy
Forecast models give SSW winds.
Reports from weather stations confirm that.
If you use "route planner " please be sure you select "north up" at "wind barbs".

@fowey-guy
If you don’t need any weather forecast when planning a passage, why are you starting a discussion on a weather app forum ?
By the way, a sailor expressing the wind speed in mph does not seem really serious to me.
