because they think it will attract more users, because of the pretty little pictures are more "user friendly and attractive"

@AltHeight Thank you for all suggestions and your feedback in general. We will consider certain changes.

Hello,
Long time (happy) user and promoter, first time commenting/posting.
Agree it's the first time windy goes in the wrong direction with this UI change.I support the idea to rollback or ad a toggle button to choose between graphical icon or text+mini icon as it was before ;-) (app and desktop)
Thanks in advance !

I might start to be repetitive, but:- you decided to destroy perfectly working system just because of what? I perfectly understand devs ego to do "state of the art" things just because they can, but it's kindergarden behaviour. Unfortunately this new UI is the state of the wrong art. Did you do any research beforehand? Did you show your brilliant idea to a single paying user and get anything close to "it's exactly what I dream about!"?
- you are not the first company (and for sure not biggest) who shoot itself in the foot for no reason. But why? why would you do it? Could you control your devs ego a bit?
- it's your problem that plugins are not converted to new UI. On what basis did you decide that 2 months is enough time for plugin maintainers? Do you realize that one or other pluging might be the major reason for user to pay for windy? You could easily postpone this new UI till majority of plugings will be converted... And believe me no one will be missing your new UI even if it will be posponed for 20 years..
What you can (easily) do now:
- revert back to prev version for people who ask for it - all of us?
- make windy-2 and satisfy your devs ego there. You may make separate subscription for it, experiment to any level of madness/excellence there. People will switch to new in no time when new will be at least as useful as old one.
PS.
your Sounding implementation is not as useful as one from plugin. Just have a look side by side and spot the diff.100% correct.

Why not have an option at the top of the page, "Try New Interface" a month before launch?
Then you could let people try the interface, provide feedback and switch it off until things get fixed.
That would be far better than messing things up.

The new UI makes no sense at all on desktop:
- the little graphical bubbles are useless, they do not provide any sort of information on the kind of information they provide while taking much more space, limiting de facto the number of elements visible;
- the order is non-deterministic, the bubbles are sorted on whatever. It is impossible to create a custom order nor to group by theme. I.E: when pinned, rain, temperature, rain accumulation, No2 and radar show up in this dreadful order! Why would data related to rain be scattered like that?
- Putting everything on the right side pane is a non-sense, separating elements (read favorites and profile) is a must! The red cross button is useless when navigating the favorites. I want to access the layers immediately, and for wherever I want. The two panes are now mutually exclusive and forces me to click twice when they where both accessible previously. I can access the favorites from the layer view BUT NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND! This is nuts!!!
- The preview rectangles in the layer pane serve no purpose rather than being "pretty". Unless you can make these dynamic I don’t care what a layer looks like if it cannot immediately express what it is made for. The icons where much much more readable.
It really feel that you’ve made a mistake trying to unify the UIs. A good touchscreen interface is not a good desktop UI and vice-versa.
Generally speaking, the global affordance of Windy when waaay down with this update.
I reckon this is not something you want if you are on the lookout for new subscribers.
A crude GRIB viewer is becoming more usable than your product, while being free…
I will certainly reconsider my subscription at the next renewal date. -
Hi, I am also not happy with new UI in desktop version. It is step back, not forward.
-
@davidscerba 100% agree, it is a change for the sake of change not for improvement (well actually, as you say this is a step in the wrong direction).
What we need is someone to go "ok, we tried it - it wasn't popular, let's put it back the way it was"
-
Few years ago, I decided to subscript to Windy, mainly for the use of plugins (trajectory, ...), and now you decide to remove it. I think I'll think twice for my next year renewal subscription .... as from now, Windy becomes useless for me without these plugins. All the other infos can be found on meteociel website .... so, no more add to pay for windy
-
@ghurbain even if all the info are available elsewhere there is no other site as user friendly and as beautiful and helpful as windy.
Most of the plugins are ported or being ported and they will be better with new framework.
I have no doubt you will renew you subscription because windy is the best and you know it When you do please don't forget to post about it and send kudos to the windy team for their awesome site 😘

@Suty thank you for your answer! I cannot see any group configuration of layers, unless you are refering to clicking on "more layers" first and then use the categories
-
@rsjorgenamundsen I hope you will like our new update. Personally, it is really nice to use it, layers in the menu are grouped and also you can completely adjust layers on our homepage.
-
@Suty looks better now, still some hiccups, but ill keep quiet for a while about that.thank you for considering us ol' lapp toppers

@Suty Can we please get back the static altitude slider (desktop)?
@Suty, I'm not sure who's responsible, but now I see there is now a way to use the altitude slider without having to open the entire side menu. I really appreciate that recent addition since the changes.
It's the best of both where it can be independently expanded or compact when not in use. That option is perfect.

There is one good thing about the new desktop UI, that is the convenient button to show isobars on the satellite view.
However, the rest of the new UI is terrible, confusing, much more difficult to use than the old one. The phrase "if it works, don't fix it" comes to mind.
Please, please go back to the old design. I'm starting to look around for an alternative.

Hi, Can I have Roads/Highways layer on my weather prediction map?
-
@rkh88 Hi there, no we don't support this now and it is not even planned at the moment.
-
@vicb Huh? Windy is not nearly as useful as it was a couple of weeks ago.
-
@Suty Dream on.
